E90 M3 Carbon Fiber Roof
The next step in weight savings for the race car will be a carbon fiber roof!
Lang Racing Development is local to me here in So. Cal and they were willing to make one without the antenna hole... http://store.langracing.com/bmw-e90-...er-roof-panel/ I was just emailed a couple pics of it "hot off the mold"... I am psyched! The car is just under 3000 lbs now as it sits, which is light for an E90 M3, but heavy compared to the front-running race cars we're up against. This roof will save us 16lbs! I went with the race car version with the foam core. Every little bit helps. I will post pics of the install as it occurs. Now for the hard part... removing the steel roof -Ralph Warren |

Wow looks like an awesome track car! Where do you race/which class? Good luck with the roof replacement.
Do you have a link to your build? And curious what else do you have in store.

is there any real benefit to this? It's only a 15 lb reduction on a car that is even totally gutted still over 3200 lb.Yeah I know it's high up above the centre of gravity and all that. but has anyone actually noticed or measured any improvement in performance? or is it only hypothetical?

I'd be curious as to just how much weight savings you'll see. You are just replacing the metal skin with the CF right? Weigh both pieces if you would. I can't imagine the metal skin weighs much more, if any than the CF unless you are removing some of the bracing for it as well...

These are already for sale to the general public, orders are filled in about 3 to 4 days even if you have custom requirements. Check the link Ralph posted above or just contact us. We can add the antenna hole. The quality compared to the other roofs (based on what I have seen of the e46 roof) is equal or better. This can vary from part to part but I have had customers call to buy my roof after having bought roofs from other suppliers and been disappointed with the quality. We do sometimes have flawed roofs but we set those aside and sell them for less. |
