Exhaust + Pulley + Air Filter + Tune Done : Next performance mod?
DONE : Akrapovic Xpipe + Rear End (I guess that would be the evo minus the tips?)
DONE : BMC Air Filter DONE : Pulley just crossed shipping, will be installed this week DONE : BPMTune Stage 2 Assuming one doesn't want to supercharge the motor, what would be the next "performance" mod on the list? Not really much I have found. Carbon fiber drive shaft? Dinan throttle bodies? Differential upgrade? Any other suggestions? Please no "leave it as it is" comments... My wallet, my car... I live a fairly minimalist lifestyle... I like to splurge on the M3. |

I'd say lighter wheels and brakes, to my knowledge this will reduce unsprung weight and help you get your power at the wheels. I've never done it, but have wanted to as it sounds like a cool option once the engine has been kinda maxed out.

6 months ago I purchased a new set of wheels Would be a complete waste to swap wheels now.
The breaks I have started to look at, but honestly, and yeah just being honest here, was hoping on something between the 0-2000 price range. A little over would be ok... But a set of BBKs (front and back) is going to run me about 3 times that at least. |

4.5l bore/stroke with lighter pistons/rods, higher duration cams, knife-edged crank and raised redline to 8800-9k. Maybe up the compression and tune for e85.
Thatd be my NA progression. Driveline stuff like solid diff/ subframe/gears would be good to explore as well. Last edited by Shredicus; 06-02-2015 at 12:27 PM.. |

Without a supercharger or going with a whole new stroker engine, you aren't doing anything else to that engine. The throttle bodies would be a waste of money.

Revert back to stock before it's too late. Part out mods to fund rod bearings.
I'm half serious

i have had a crush on the dinan throttle bodies for a while now... a little more power and probably a more distinct/unique induction noise... yes please!

If you want to go fast, tires, suspension, brakes and lightweight wheels would help you go faster on the track (in that order). Strictly speaking engine wise and short of a stroker, would consider the Schrick 284 or 292 cams and a new diff. The cams would give you a little more top end power that can be better exploited with a tune (BPM can revise the tune for this). The diff would help with lower end torque, particularly in 3rd gear and to a lesser extent 4th, which is a gear where you spend a lot of time of on the track. If there is a weakness of the S65, its in too high rpm for 2nd and too low rpm for 3rd in the 60-70 mph turns, so a little more torque coming out of turns would help not to mention some of the custom diffs available can really reduce the delay before locking and help with rear traction while using the throttle to steer.

This is where I'm at as well: Akra Evo, Dinan intake, Turner pulley.
At this point, short of engine work (which I will no doubt do some day) or force induction, your next move is really just shedding weight, with a priority on rotating weight. (People say "unsprung" weight, but unsprung weight includes anything not held up by the struts/springs, and thus includes a lot of weight that has nothing more to do with acceleration than sprung weight.) Shedding ~50 lbs. of rotating weight would make a pretty tangible difference in acceleration. IMO, the biggest bang-for-the-buck weight shedding aspects are:

Get that power to the wheels. Replace diff mounts and lighten up the car to improve power to weight ratio.
Get a used set of BBK. Should be around $4k Why NOT get a supercharger? You've done your bearings. Even with a ESS VT1-550 kit its good usable power with low cost |
