Have W204 C63, drove an M4 today
Big mistake. Such beast. Must have.
I've been wishy-washy about getting rid of my C63 for an MT M3/4 car for a few months. Because there's really nothing *wrong* with the AMG. Went and drove an MT 435i to get a feel for the new gen manual transmission, and then subsequently, an M4 to get a feel for the M (no MT car available). I'm afraid I must have one now. /end thread |

Don't tell this story over in MB world.
Might as well spec it out and order. You appear to be fighting a losing battle with yourself.

The C63 is a pretty sweet car, but without a proper transmission... well you know.

Suspensions are very good. Simple coilovers, but good. I'm okay with simple. Steering is excellent, nearly perfectly weighted, and feels very natural. Brakes are absolutely fantastic. Transmission is stupid. If you grab it by the neck and muscle it around, then it works, and it's quite good fun what with the machine gun pops and violent downshifts. Normal driving though it's slow, dimwitted, and frustrating. It was the first automatic I've had in over a decade. I can't keep doing it - I need to shift. Jumping in another MT reminded me of how important it is to row my own gears. I'll miss the Merc a lot though. It's a deeply flawed creature, but very lovable. |
