Going from 2008 M6 to 2008 M3..mistake?

For personal reasons it looks like I may go from a 2008 M6 to a 2008 M3, thoughts?

The M6 is undoubtedly a powerful car and statement, but it's just never appealed to me. I dropped off the preorder list when i found out more about it. The M3 will be more tossable with probably more interior room, and definitely more utility, to boot. And not exactly slow. Also get to have the DCT tranny if you like. Sounds like a fine plan to me.

i actually went the opposite direction. went to the dealer to spec my m3 and ended up buying a 6 speed black/black m6 coupe. its an amazing car after having it this weekend i am very satisfied with my choice.

That depends on what appeals to you. I am not fond of cars as big and heavy as the M6 no matter how much power the produce. Granted the M3 is far from a light weight. Also, I find the M3 sexy, whereas I don't feel the same about the M6; not meant to offend any M6 owners.

If you plan on getting a sedan, then yes. But if you want to get the coupe, I'd say keep the M6. But as you said, it is for personal reasons so as long as you are happy.

lol oh no not this again.. you may have the itch for the new thing, you will regret that move imo

what are your "personal reasons"

after you're used to the 6 interior, the 3 is pretty bad

what are the actual M3 and M6 unladen weights?

rsportscars.com and edmunds say the M6 = 3770lbs but, BMW website says 3900

M6 is bigger than the M3, M3 is younger than M6, IMO M3 looks better than M6 but M6 is quicker in a straight line than M3... go for the M3; it'll cost less and hopefully depreciate slower!

No, I would love to keep the M6, however I need a new saloon car, but still want a coupe. So I am getting rid of the M6, picking up an M3 and getting an X6.

It is really a financial move. I can not afford to keep the M6 and get the X6, however the M3 and X6 makes it a bit easier on the wallet.

Cosmos! Great to see you here man! You can't go wrong with any ///M car. You know what the M6 can do in a straight line and otherwise.

I really think you should drive the M3 before you make up your mind. I personally don't think the M3 will be any more nimbler than the M6 at speed.

I am going to the Advanced M School in August / September to drive the M5 / M6 / new M3 back to back..... Why don't you join me?

I will help defray the cost of the Advanced M school by buying you drinks!

Cheers!

do it man. M3 has more M character than any other M car. My best buddy is a M3 to M6 owner, and now he's coming back to M3 again. everyone keeps telling him it's a downgrade, but he knows what they do not know about the car

from the sound of it, it is a better trade off to have the X6 and the M3 then to have one M6.
