Someone Followed Me Home...

This was a first and a little unnerving. I went out for a quick Starbucks run yesterday morning and as I am backing my F82 into my garage a gentleman pulls up to the end of my driveway and gets out of his truck. I was thinking...oh shit..what did I do to piss someone off? He proceeds to tell me how much he loved my car when he saw it. He is looking for one with a manual transmission as well but can't find one on a lot. He had just gotten rid of his Caymen R and was thinking about the GT3 but found out it was impossible to get so now looking at the M4. Nice enough guy but I'm not sure I really like that much attention. I know my wife wasn't all that happy. Has that happened to anyone else? I've only had it 2 weeks!

That is f*cked up! Who in their sane mind follows someone home for any reason really. I mean he could be a nice guy and all but this is just not done and I would not appreciate it especially if I have my wife and kids with me.

call me paranoid, but i err on the side of caution, ditching any cars that remain in my mirrors too long. after every turn i make, i continue watching my mirrors to see if anyone who was behind me made the same turn. i know my neighbor's cars, and i wouldn't even drive to my house if i had the same unfamiliar car behind me for more than a couple turns.

now that i typed that out, i realize i need help. in response to the OP, i'd be REALLY annoyed. i'm sure he had fine intentions, but that's super creepy behavior.

depending on where this is in Chicago I would be alarmed too!

Here in SoCal there are so many flashier cars in some areas than a 3 series/M3 is a non event. It is as if the regular 3 is the 4cyl camry and the M3 is the V6 camry.. yawn.

Glad it turned out out this time around

He did know a lot about the car and cars in general, the local track, etc. which made me feel a little better. I realize crazy comes at all social economic statuses though. I didn't see his car before it was at the end of the driveway.

The only time someone ever followed me into a driveway it was a cop, and I hadn't seen him throw his lights on seconds earlier. I actually talked my way out of the ticket too, which was a nice plus after the initial startle from him yelling at me to get back in my car after I got out. Honestly didn't see the guy so I got of my car to go into my house.

Ick. If a car follows me for more than five or six turns (in suburbia) I'll just drive right by my home to see if he keeps following me. If he does, I lose him around some corners and go orbit somewhere for a few more minutes before heading back home.

i prefer to turn into a public shopping place to let some cars behind me go by, then rejoin the traffic on the same road. i don't like even entering my neighborhood if i'm suspicious of someone. most of the time it's probably just boy racers/voyeurs/M fans, but i still don't like too many interested parties knowing where i keep my car at night.

Could be worse, you could be Jason Plato and have this happen to you....

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=933047

(if you haven't read it and have time, the thread is fantastic. About 8 pages in there is a surprise appearance by Mr Plato with his take on the meetup......)

Anyway, I've had a few people seek me out compliment me (and make a point of doing so) but nobody follow me home - usually in a parking lot or whatever. That said, even if they did follow me home....I think if they are genuinely an enthusiast (which seems to be the case as he knew about the car) it is understandable, even if unusual. We should also not assume everyone that follows us home wants to kill and rape and rob us because, hey, who would want to live in that kind of world of fear?

oh yeah. Fox news. Nevermind.....

Something doesn't add up...you live in Chicago and have a garage?

Joking! I wouldn't sweat it. I hope I see you around town sometime!

If he lives more than 5 houses away it seems weird. If you see him again he's probably crazy.

I thought you were gonna say it was a high end hooker who's really into cars and wanted to give you a freebie.

BTW, this only happens to Sakhir Orange M4 owners because the car looks so good.

Haha, seriously. If I saw the same car in my rearview for an extended period of time, I would definitely not even turn on to my road. I'd probably stomp on it, or stop and see if he/she stops also. But that is kinda weird that he followed you to your house.

Of course, for the truly paranoid, you would head immediately to the nearest police station and see if the person follows you in

What I think is wierd is that everyone thinks this is wierd behavior. Where I live, this kind of thing happens often. I guess we just don't think that everyone that drops by the house is there to harm us.

Maybe this is acceptable behavior in TX

But then again... TX is an open carry state.
