Who drives using the start-up defaults?
The start-up defaults are my biggest gripe with my M4. I find the default Efficient/Sport/Sport for Engine/Suspension/Steering not a combination I find useful. I understand that Efficient for the engine default is probably necessary for emission/consumption reasons and I can live with that. I don't get the two other in Sport though. I would have much preferred if they would have made them user configurable as it was on the E9X or at least default to Efficient/Comfort/Comfort as on the M5.
I am curious how many here like the Efficient/Sport/Sport start-up defaults and actually use them.

I secretly believe you have created all the new users who have posted the sudden rash of 'hey, anyone know how to change my default settings?' threads just so you can rant about this.....
I agree with you. Would be nice if i didnt have to hit M1 M1 every time i get in the car just to get to my preferred settings but....oh well.

I voted no, but I do use the default settings when pulling out of my driveway and going through the neighborhood at 6am in the morning.
My M1 and M2 buttons are set for more "flap open" scenarios, so it's easiest just to leave it at default until i'm clear.

Maybe a bit to black or white...could have a question like "do you ever see a need to use your BMW provided default setting?" should be added for those that live in the gray area.
I voted no, for the record.

Do the flaps open only in Sport+ mode or do they open in Sport as well at WOT?

That control logic is a bit more complex that "open at WOT" though. In Sport and Sport+, they remain mostly open but close in 3rd gear and above at low RPM and small throttle openings to avoid drone.

Its odd though
Don't quite get why on start up its in Efficient for the engine , yet sport for the suspension
You would expect default to be efficient & comfort ...then as most M1 button is programmed accordingly, it seems so odd setting sport as the default suspension In fact on this poll I see no one stays with default settings, in my case I set off early in the morning, and go down a bumpy lane, so if default was comfort suspension I would leave it in that until 'hoon' time. & I bet most would prefer the comfort suspension as default... I hate the stock settings. There is enough of a difference in throttle response that it totally screws me up when I forget to change it. On a manual transmission car I like the throttle response to be exactly the same every time and I am used to sport. The only times I have stalled the car are when I have it in efficient and I don't give it enough revs as a result.
90% of the time I am in Sport/comfort/Sport, the remainder I am in Sport/Sport Plus/Sport |

my default "long highway drive" setting though is efficient throttle, comfort steering, D1 gear box setting, and cruise control. I call it "320i mode" because that's how I am schlepping around in traffic |

I always use my M1 which is set to Sport+, comfort, comfort
I HATE anything other than comfort steering, and how anyone can like or use sport+ steering is beyond me. It's waaaaaay to heavy and artificial feeling |

I essentially wanted to find out if folks on the forum find the combination of Efficient/Sport/Sport a useful one. I understand why you use the default as a "quiet" mode, but a start-up in Efficient/Comfort/Comfort for example, would serve the same purpose to you.

Sport, Comfort Comfort are my M1 and my go to settings. The defaults settings again do not seem to make sense. They should be user selectable as well, just like M1/2

Yep an old complaint but totally agree - was really hoping for a software refresh following the 2016 model release or whatever it takes (ECU related) to upgrade us to a user customizable configuration by this point, but I guess not tho be so!

I would prefer user defined or efficient/comfort/comfort. I like the soft settings for cold starts and go into my M1 setting once the car is warmed up. Also the softest settings on start up are helpful for times when non-owners drive (family/friends/dealer staff/valets). Plus if you are leaving a parking lot with sped bumps, it's more convenient.
Who wants to waste an M button for super soft mode. So when I start up cold I usually have to change the steering and suspension.

Well this is where I'm glad I got the poor man package. No adaptive suspension for me lol so I just have two settings to deal with.
However, I still find myself tapping down the steering button twice to get it into COMFORT. Wish it had a LAST USER MODE feature just like the auto start/stop feature has. |

Exactly the same for me, I wait until I'm out of the neighbourhood to hit M1 early in the morning to keep the valves closed. Otherwise, the car is always in Sport+/Comfort/Sport/S2.
