Loud braking?

Under moderate braking I'm getting a loud heavy noise front the front brakes. Forgot to tell them at the 1200 mile service. Anyone else having this problem? There was a squeaky brake for a while too right after delivery but I don't hear it much now.

Need more information...do you have the CCB's or steel brakes?

I have the same issue. Moderate braking as well... I think there's probably pad material that needs removed or something. It doesn't happen often but it's annoying enough to where I'm going to mention it to them soon.

Let me know if they say anything. I'm thinking the same.

Only on reverse but when in reverse I'm hearing a lot of squeaking ... Especially when I brake lightly.

My car groans a lot under moderate braking. I started a thread on it a while back.

Start stepping on them harder. Do a couple 60mph-0mph runs in a row and bed them in a bit better. If you don't do it I'm sure a dealer will gladly do it for you. Plus don't complain about the little squeaks because you're just wasting everyone's time. It's normal to have some on these M cars.

Never been in a Porsche/Audi/Mercedes that squeaks or Squeals.
Shouldn't we as BMW junkies demand the same quality as our German Counterparts?

You must not drive a lot of cars sir. BMWs, MBz, Porsches I've driven all have a brake squeal tolerance that is considered normal. It's all considered nature of the brake pads. I've worked in dealerships for almost a decade. All German manufacturers.

I also have this problem when i picked up my ED m3. I was like," the hell is that." Im hoping the pads just needed to fade a bit.

I had a lot of squeaking for the first 500+ miles. I gave it some time, mostly went away. Figured I'd get the loud braking looked at next service if it continues but I don't know how temperamental these cars are so wanted to see what the opinion was.

Only thread I can find on this. I have standard brakes but they are quite loud. Not a squeaking or grinding sound but like a just loud drone sound. Granted these are the largest brakes I've ever had on a vehicle but wondering if this is normal or what? Has been like that since I got the car. Have 2000 miles currently.

Same

Only on moderate-hard braking does it show up. No sound when you softly brake early on. Droning sound is a good way to describe it

Throughout my first 1500mi I've also heard a droning sound when braking. Certainly not all the time but could have been from not properly braking the brakes in. Going to try some harder stops and see what happens. I'll report back.

Actually, on mine, the hotter and harder you work the brakes, the most prominent the droning and slight vibration gets.

The first couple of hard stops and the brakes are butter smooth with no noise or drama, after that, forget it.

I had my car in for service specifically for this issue. The shop foreman agreed with me that it's there, but they test drove another 2016 on the lot and it did it too, so they called in normal. They also checked all 4 of my rotors and they were all true.

Funny, but my E90 didn't do that.

I suspect it has to do with the pad material used, the shop foreman tended to agree with that theory.

He said if enough people complained about it, BMW might be inclined to address it, but other wise I doubt they would.

I'll bring it up next time I'm in service. Hopefully everyone that has this issue will so we can get an official bulletin for it. The car is perfect minus the loud droning at braking and the squealing at reverse. 2 last things..

Just got back from dealer after taking it in for this problem. They said it was normal even though they changed the backing plates. Left a performance brake brochure on my seat that said noise can be contributed to more pad material being left on the rotors when hot....

Anyway, none of my past or current Porsches exhibited this behavior unless you are really working the brakes hard. Even my Mini JCW doesn't do it. My M3 groans and looses performance after a few hard stops on country backroads. Not exactly my definition of performance brakes. Funny, most of the rental cars I get have this problem too after I drive them harder.

I think the pad material they chose is too soft for performance driving. I can't imagine the stock pads would hold up to serious Autobahn or any track work. I think my solution will be to get a set of Pagids.

Yep, that's what they told me too, and I got that same stupid, insulting brochure.

I had an E90 M3, and had no such issues.

They chose a crappy pad compound

My brakes (steel) squeak a lot under light braking when coming to a complete stop now that it's 20*F. It's pretty damn loud.

Do you guys think doing a couple 60-0 stops will get rid of it? It's only under light braking; moderate to heavy the noise is done. I definitely think it's ambient temp. related.

Ive had the same issue since i bought the car. Sounds like a grinding/droning noise with accompanied vibrations. My e60 ///M5 never did this even after brake services. Its embarrassing and i think insulting for a performance car. Can break pads remedy this? or a couple of hard 60-0 stops?
