Does the f8x m3/4 has a fake hump on the hood?

I just saw a engine bay pic of the new m3, looks like the inline six is small enough for the hump on the hood to be a fake one. The s65 in my babe is really bigger than the inline six and making the hump more functional. Maybe everyone has noticed that except me

It's a design detail - nothing fake about it. The E90 also has a lot of design details driven by aesthetic rather than function.

Our fender vents are fake. How does that make you feel?

Don't forget one of the two hood vents is also fake! Civic M3 confirmed.

I believe, our hood bump is aerodynamic. A while ago, somebody posted two videos about how the E9X M3 is truly special and in one of them there's a scene in German where the engineer explains all the lines and curves of the E9X. He continues to explain that the "power bulge" is aerodynamic...

Or something Like what...

Remove the rubber and it is completely functional.

Negative.
But you're on the right track about the video.
The engineers attest the fact that the power dome was necessary to provide the volumetric efficiency necessary for the ITBs.
There is literature on this as well deep somewhere in the archives of this forum.

Some say only the chosen M enthusiast will be able to access the deep annals.

I don't recall anything saying that it serves a specific aerodynamic function although i'm sure they made sure the power dome wouldn't negatively affect the E9X M3 in the wind tunnel.

Here's the video we're discussing so you can refresh your memory.
I've watched this whole series many many times
There's actually 4 parts (Philosophy, Racing, Facilities, Processes) but this one groups them together, which is nice.

Thanks for the post. Great video.

Sounds like they explain the rationale for the E9X M3's hump pretty clearly... Needed a larger air dome to increase air flow which resulted in better torque.

Marketing. They could have probably made a lower profile hood that would have cleared the airbox, but then it wouldn't be as special.

For what it's worth, I love the look of the e9x hood.

It's pretty damn real, I actualy touched one before...

Think about it lol: a company can make a hood with any design they wish.. look at chryslers lol..

its like saying does the M4 have a fake front bumper...
does it require the design it has or is it for looks? its for looks . It's a style.
lol..
It's not like its a non functional vent.
It's actually worse to have to change the style of a hood because the engine you designed doesnt fit properly, if you think about it.
