Unable to spin wheels at launch even with DSC off?

Hi everyone,

this is my first question on the forum. I recently purchased an M4 6MT. This is my first M car and I am still very excited. Before the car arrived, I was reading the forum constantly and learning as much as I can.
I kept reading about how powerful the car was and how "easy" it is to spin the wheels and to be very cautious with all the power. I had my 1200 mile service about 2 weeks ago and have been slowly becoming more aggressive with the car.
Basically my question is if there is a way to verify the cars performance. Although it is by far the fastest and most powerful car I have owned, I have not been fully impressed.
I have now tried constantly to spin the wheels and "launch" the car aggressively. I have revved it up anywhere between 2-3500 rpm and dropped the clutch and the wheels will maybe spin for less than 1/2 a second and then I will launch. My impression is that 1st gear is just not powerful at all. I definitely feel more pull in 2nd gear but again, nothing overwhelming. I have also tried to spin the wheels while coming out of turns but it just won't spin at all.
All of this has been done in sport and sport+ with traction control off .
I just want to know if there is any easy way to verify the cars performance and if it is performing as it should or maybe I was just expecting much more power after reading so much.
I want to thank the members of this forum in advance for all of the great information and support provided.

Hold the traction control button until you see the warning "DSC Inactive" on the cluster then show it respect.

be careful if your "no spin" experience has been with MDM... Traction Control turned fully off will send you sideways in a blink of an eye

This is the way to do it. I can tell you there is NO way you have came out of turns with traction control off and haven't got wheel spin.
I get wheel spin and the car jerking sideways at 50 MPH in MDM.
Once you get TC fully off just give yourself plenty of space because it will go sideways and hit redline before you even realize it. You can slam it into 2nd real quick and wind that shit out and hit 3rd before you start to feel traction coming back.

Ok thanks for the quick response guys. I wasn't even aware that was the way to completely turn off the traction control. I will have to give it a try once I find an adequate piece of road.

So what does the MDM do?

MDM allows you to get a little more "loose" than with full traction control but it still controls you a decent amount.

This has always been the major downfall of 6MT, it has terrible traction issues due to human error. I love it

Don't forget wet conditions, snow conditions and in the case of Texas, probably sand too.

This car is a mess for us erroring users.

Op, when you do take off the traction control, be aware the car changes personalities completely. With tc on, it is almost impossible to crash it just because you see a corner. With the tc off the beast is waiting there to kill you.

Go to an empty parking lot at least to sure the first set of rears before you go to the road with those settings. Also before anyone else says this: Check your tire pressures. A slight difference has been reported as a reason for flying cars...

thanks, I will give it a try sometime this week. For discussion purposes, lets say that even with DCT completely off the car continues to struggle, how can it be verified for proper power output without taking through the dyno?

If you can't melt the rears off the car with DSC off, you'll have to take it in for service.

Please feel free to open a new thread to discuss that on the remote chance you come up short.
