Turbos: Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?

At about 9.5k miles, I still get what I assume is a turbo smell. I like it. Anyone else get this, or do I need to lay off the dope?

I'm trying to think of why a turbocharger would emit a smell different from any other type of engine, and if it did, what would it be?

By the way, do you like the taste of the bumper? I thought it was a little salty, and could use some tumeric too, but it could be me. Love the sound of the floor mats though!

I'm just joshin' ya

In winter it does taste a little too salty. In summer however, it is a bit bitter from the bug splashes , a touch of lemon might help there.

Are you sure you haven't borrowed your car to a rim commercial?

I can't place a turbo smell for the life of me, if not turbos turning passengers smelly.

Maybe it's 'new engine smell'? Seems to be more present in sport+, under harder acceleration, when I hear the turbos spool. My sense of smell isn't the greatest though (which is usually a good thing...).

OK, I admit, I got the Executive Chef Pack, where the I-6 cooks steaks and pipes the smell into the cabin. I think they called it Active Smell?

Jokes aside newer Mercedes actually have a feature you could call 'active smell'.

I went aftermarket and got the Ronco M Sport Rotisserie / Grill / Smoker from Turner Motorsport. It uses the heat from the turbos to make perfect Beef Wellington. The only downside is it rides shotgun. The hood mount version sucks. It's been known to catapult a turducken through the windshield at high speeds.

New 7 series has "active smell" - scent packs you can add to the AC / ventilation.

Nope, it's like a glade plug in scent thing that shoots perfume into the cabin. Someone else here said the 7 series does this now too.

I started this post half jokingly, but no one else has 'turbo smell', when the turbos spool (or pre-spool), in the upper RPM's, under harder acceleration?? I thought it was completely normal. I've not had any problems with the car at all. No CEL, no loss of power, etc.

It's hard to describe the smell. Not very strong. Not burning oil, burning rubber, coolant. Maybe a little metallic.

Nope, no smell. Not a turbo thing, though it could be related to your turbos. I know you don't think it's coolant, but if the smell is slightly metallic it sounds like coolant burning.

Lots of U.S. cars smelled like rotten eggs from the sulfur in the catalytic converter

I have been LOL at some of these replies but in all seriousness, I do however have a metallic smell to my 6spd car as well when I park in the garage after coming home from work. It smells to me like the clutch breaking in. I have 1300 miles. I think its normal as I do most of my hard driving after a hard days work.
