You can buy track insurance if your policy doesn't cover it. Otherwise, be sure you can afford to walk away from the car financially. Why be dishonest when there are honest ways to protect your finances?

This guy looks very familiar and for some reason I've either read that name mentioned here or seen his picture posted. Can't quite place why or in what thread though.

Most likely got caught because there was no police report. Insurance claims need that report to process a claim. Although..... based on the article, it seems he was paid out and then got caught?
This is why I will never go on the track without buying some sort of track insurance. The risk is just too high. |

+1 to track insurance. Although, the price of track admission + insurance is mighty close to the cost of renting a track car (e.g., GT3) from a racing academy. After running your car once or twice to see what it can do, I'd rather beat on their car versus my daily, costs being equal.

i've been on track twice and bought track insurance both times.
the first time i mentioned having purchased it to this dude in 996 track car, and he starts to tell me how its not necessary; how his brother crashed his e90 m3 at a track, had it towed off track, and filed a claim with his regular insurer. yeh... glad i didn't take his advice during my second track day. |

Does anyone's insurance cover track time / High performance driving school? I would be surprised. One time I called Amica to investigate switching to their coverage. One of the many questions I asked was about coverage for driving schools on the track. The customer service person said they didn't know but would find out. A week later I got a letter denying me coverage - even though I hadn't applied. I called to ask why and was told that "because I asked the question it demonstrated I had an interest and therefore I wasn't insurable."
I am also under the impression that any mechanical issues as a result of being on the track can void either that warranty service claim or the warranty itself. Anyone have any experience with that? Seems that with the black box they can see you were going over 4,000 rpm and over 60 mph.

That will not nullify your warranty - neither will driving your car on the track.

oh man, he was reading these forums too much, lol. I actually have seen this very advice on here somewhere (I.e. drive off truck then call insurance).
I agree this is wrong and he shall be punished but no jail. some huge fine that is worse than divorce....
