The story of M4 and X5M

Greetings to all!

As some of you may know we had an M stable consisting of of the M4 and X5M.
In August of this year we got an i3 as a city car. M4 was my DD and X5M was my wife's.

All of a sudden, the X5M was sitting in the garage and collecting dust. My wife totally preferred the electric propulsion for city driving and running errands. X5M was rarely driven and the need for it, other than occupying garage space, was questioned heavily.

The vote to get rid of the X5M was unanimous and inevitable. I welcomed the idea as I started looking for a Turbo S. However, we quickly realized, that Turbo S is even less "practical" than the M4. Not that anyone considers practicality when shopping those cars. We agreed that we needed more of a family car. Thus, we had to compromise on the M6 Gran Coupe, since it was larger than the M4 and would fulfill the "needs for a family car".

So, as they say, the rest is history. Gone are the X5M and M4 in favor of the M6GC and i3. No regrets, and all parties are happy.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with these types of issues. :-) Great looking M6. Enjoy that beast!

Different type of car - I get it. But does the M6 FEEL significantly bigger?

Thank you.

M6GC definitely feels longer and heavier than the M4. Inside it feels pretty similar to the M4 in the front, and a good bit bigger in the back. Headroom is less than the M5. You definitely get a feel that you're not really in the sedan with the low and narrower roof line.

Height-wise the M6 is exact same height as the M4, since the M6 is competition package.

On the road the M6 feels heavier and longer especially on the twisty parts compared to the M4, so handling wise M4 gets the upper hand for sure.

I appreciate all the M cars to an equal degree for what they stand for.

Interestingly, the iCars are quite a game changer too, since they provide a totally different kind of driving experience, which I didn't think was possible to appreciate. I was certainly wrong on that.

I drive the M6 and i3 quite differently as the purpose they serve is diametrically opposite. I appreciate the opposite ends of the spectrum that the M brand and i brand represent. Near silent driving experience is something else!

My wife didn't look twice on the X5M once she got her hands on the i3. I asked her what was her favorite feature of the i3 and she said not to have to fill it up! The i3 is a 2 year lease so, maybe by the end of the lease I'll pass down the M6 to her and get my hands on the Turbo S or maybe an i8. Time will show.

Thanks.

Depending on the driving style, driving conditions, driving mode anywhere from 60-80mi. The i3 is REx, so it easily doubles that if you tap into the gasoline component. For city driving you never have to fill it up with gas. The fast charging station at home is a must, as the regular electrical charge takes forever.

Thats what I was getting with my demo for a while as well. Was just curious what others get. The i3 is such a great driving around town car. Congrats again.
