Dealer Add-ons

it has been a while since I bought a new car - I lived right across from Avis and given parking was $800/m in my building I couldn't justify buying a car ( and everyone at Avis knew me - what a bonus).

Anyway I got a little peeved about the add-ons that dealers were trying to jam down my throat. Consumer protection hasn't made it to the car industry yet.

Here are some that they tried with me :

Wheel locks and gas for $200 (a little high).

Car matts (250)

Nitro wheels (400). This is the biggest rip off because everyone I know who has rejected it have received their car with their wheels filled with nitro.

PDI and Freight - feel like this one went up. $2245 in Toronto, Canada. I thought that this is supposed to be $2095. West coast in Canada get hit hard (think 2800) but I believe the U.S. has it the cheapest.

Admin fee - $400. I feel like this is one to help pad their pockets. They are entitled to earn money here and there but isn't this part of doing business.

No marketing or other fees - my last car had them.

Please share yours and if you got out of them.

Because I have been a customer at my current dealer for the past 4 BMW's they know not to play that with me so.. I just sign my papers and I'm out the door with my new car
Most common add ons are extended warranty for finance and wheel/tire insurance which I always pass on.

LOL, they charged you for gas? Mine came full and I got a free second tank. Sweet dealer you've got there. Came with nitrogen in the tires, too.

Totally missed the "Ride Green Certified" (I presume that is Nitro for the tires) for $399 on the bill. Freight and PDI was $2195 and Gas / Wheel locks were $139. Got the car through Parkview. I guess that additional .5% that I pressed him for paid for the frign "Ride Green Certified". OMG, can't believe they charge $100 a tire for Nitrogen (I think Jeep was $10 / tire). Oh well, no one to blame but me on that one.

Keep in mind BMW Canada will do a lot of tweaking to options and fees to make up for that devalued currency which is going to depreciate a bit further into 2016.

Mine came with wheel locks, both the carpet and all weather mats (though I ended up getting the Weathertech Floor Liners). Nitrogen fills was not offered.

I was however offered stuff like Lojack, windshield insurance, tire and wheel insurance, gap insurance, etc.

I got the Lojack installed (BMW Assist is not the same thing) and the windshield insurance. The latter with one replacement would be worth it.

Mine was:

Tricor registration $298
Rubber mats $179.97 I subsequently also ordered weathertech ones)

Locking wheel bolts $99.50
PDI & Freight $2,290
Ontario Tire Stewardship $23.36
AC Tax $100
Other Dealer Options $10
Fuel $100
Licence Fee $14.

Always trying to pad their pockets. Nitrogen fill is the biggest scam going. Pisses me off. A Toyota dealer tried to sell me windshield coating, scotchgaurd, undercoat, blah, blah, blah. Next time I buy a car I'm gonna act like 2yr old and just start screaming as their talking. Randomly.

Our Range Rover came with these useless stickers called Phantom Footprints.

Told them they can remove them as we were not interested and all of a sudden they became free.
