Jalopnik's Tavarish on the E9x M3
"[The E9x M3] is the culmination of three previous generations of the German automaker’s most iconic model. Not only is this the first and last V8-powered M3, but unless the engineers at BMW change their collective tunes, this E90 would represent the ultimate naturally aspirated M-badged car. With more than 400 horsepower produced from its high-revving eight cylinder powerplant, fed through a traditional six speed manual transmission, it’s exactly the thing people talk about when curmudgeons utter the phrase “They don’t make ‘em like they used to.” In my opinion, it’s the best M3 model in existence."
On rod bearings: "There were Technical Service Bulletins about this from BMW and while no formal recalls were issued, this car’s 95,000-mile figure seems to be in prime territory for bearing failure if the fix hasn’t been performed yet." What's the actual, observed average mileage of all known failures? Seems like the number is way lower than 95k. Any truth to the idea that once these engines make it past a certain point, they're less likely to experience a failure? Discuss. (FYI - the price of the car he links to in the article seems to be bogus, based on the comments.) http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/me-eit...e-e-1750926211 |

Saw this article earlier today as well. For those that aren't regular readers of Jalopnik, this author is well known for regular articles regarding great bargains on high performance cars that have significantly depreciated and demonstrates that with a bit of research and potentially DIY elbow grease you can get a great value on a car that otherwise cost $80k new. You have to read the Tavarish articles with a grain of salt, he knows A LOT about A LOT of cars, but sometimes misses on the details.
I think this car and the scammy internet price representing what you can get a e9x for is an anomaly for his articles as well. |

It is a bait article written to support a single listing. No doubt a trash priced car like has changed hands too many times and seen the worst. Heck, i would not feel secure at twice that price for any M car. But let's not be naive, M cars are mega magnets for the broke poseur, there will always be slime balls stealers trying to sell trashed ones by patting people's ego. I can see how this trash article's author probably is in for a few hundreds with the listing.
I learned my lesson buying an M3. Way too many getto and spoiled frat or plain rich kids eventually get one. I will never buy BMW again. Now i finally understand why Porsche deserves it's tag, no unsavory crowd like that there. |

I read the article and raised my brow a few times... however, if you were completely new to the e9x platform, the article does inform you items to begin your pre-purchase google search. I highly doubt a reader enthusiast would not perform some level of diligence before dropping $20k on a car. Like what has already been mentioned, a +1 to these articles written for garner web traffic purposes.
I actually think the intent of the article and the review of the rod bearing issue (again, enough mention of the topic to begin your own search) is pretty good. |

Haha...I actually bought my X3 from them, mom bought her MK6 Golf and friend bought her MK6 Jetta.
Good people. The "internet price" is a little wack, but can easily be thrown wayside with negotiating.

My guess is that it is annother wannabe who is upset that his BMW isn't exclusive enough to make him feel secure. He (or she) will at some point move over to the Porsche enclave only to realize that it is populated by pretty much the same collection of people represented here.
