Delivery advice for my F15 tomorrow!

Hey guys:

I am picking up my new 2016 x5 xdrive35i Msport tomorrow and wanted to ask the experts if there is anything i should look for before pickup. Map updates, recalls, any strange defects, etc.

Thanks!

Congrats!

Just take your time looking for all the usual dealer prep faux pax.
Check for the hidden cargo net.
Book your "Xpel" and "Opti-coat" installation and then "drive it like you stole it"

As said above, just be sure to go over the entire vehicle as best you can. Note any flaws, scratches, and anything not up to your liking. This is by far the best time to have anything corrected. Once you take delivery, it becomes far more difficult to prove it was an issue on delivery. When taking delivery of mine, I had a few issues:

1) dealer installed branding decals on tailgate and license plate frames, I had asked them not to.
2) dealer drilled the front bumper and installed the front license plate bracket, I had asked them not to. Because the bumper was drilled, there was no real going back. I negotiated a $750 parts credit to compensate for this. The bumper is now filled and re-painted, had this done as part of the repairs needed for parking lot damage a year later.
3) scratch on b-pillar fabric, just below the seatbelt return

when I did the PCD in Spartanburg they asked me if I wanted it installed, and then
before they did it, they reminded me if I decided that, it would require drilling

Honestly, unless there are obvious drive issues or sounds, everything will be covered under warranty. You however, need to make sure the car is parked under light before delivery. You should walk the exterior to check for blemishes in the paint, scratches, dings, and swirl marks. Inspect the interior for scratches in the wood, leather, etc. Hopefully your car is delivered with 5 miles or less, meaning it hasn't been driven necessarily before delivery

Which dealer? try to get something free(All Weather Mats) from the finance person atleast.. they will try to sell you wheel/paint/tire insurance.. thats all up to you.. If you getting the 20" wheels..maybe the tire/wheels ins. is not a bad idea.. if regular 19s forget it.. dont pay more than $1500 for the insurance.
Call them now and tell them not to drill holes in the bumper.. other than that u should be good..

Generally, you don't have to do anything if the dealer has to done their job. There are nightmare stories however:

- scratches (inside and out)
- missing options
- mix and match between standard and HK stereo speakers
- a rear door panel not being leather on leather package
- wrong (European) spec side mirrors
- Navi not initialized
- Sunroof not initialized

I have seen all of the above discussed (and resolved) since I joined this forum.

Also, you may smell something burning after a long drive during your first 500-3k miles. It is an engine coating called cosmoline. You can avoid yourself the embarrassment I faced when BMW sent a flatbed to take the car to the dealer. I have had two F15s and they both did this, the first one more.

Except MPG to be below stated levels for the first 1-2k miles.

Follow the break-in procedures in the manual (keep low RPM), or do the exact opposite and seat the pistons by raving it high in N, as many experts (various threads on this), recommend. I am a natural-born follower so I did as the manual suggested.

Consider a film coating to protect the front hood. The paint is incredibly soft on these (see next item)

If you want to pay for any up-sales as you sign, be mindful that you can do all, including the hood protection, cheaper by doing it yourself or by having other professionals do them. Typical items: dent protection, paint protection (other than chips), interior stain protection (DIY nano sprays), paint sealants (C Quartz, et al).

Arrive early, or plan to stay late and have the Tech Genius (designated person) show you how to fully use the iDrive features.

Congratulations.

I can't imagine it's a common problem...I hope.

^^^ If the vehicle arrived differing from the deal as signed, to me...you have three options to solve this:

1) Take delivery as is, but re-negotiate deal based on options that it arrived with.
2) If the options can be installed / upgraded locally have them do this at no extra charge.
3) Re-order new vehicle as desired.

That's why I am on my second F15 . The problem was with the dealer placing the order incorrectly.

Thanks guys! Pickup went great and I'm glad to report no issues as of yet. \

Kind of surprised the remote doesn't have a remote start for the winters..even my Nissan PF has that.

Now anyone know of a good place for Vinyl wrap, Tints, and installation of new grills in NYC Metro/Long Island area ?

If you've ordered the MPPK, make sure the dealer has installed it. Don't take their word for it. Its happened to a few of us on this board.

That happened to me as well. In my case I had this Automatic device installed in the OBD port. After removing it, I haven't had the issue in 8 months.
