Value of 2012 E93
Took my 35k mile E93 to Carmax and they offered me 35k. My local dealer said the car was worth only 33k. These are cringe worthy numbers for me, was expecting at least 37k.
Prices continue to fall on the E9X.. Locally all but two for sale are below 40k retail. This includes two 2013 E93s for under 40k, two 201 E93s under 40k at a BMW Dealership and an 08 Coupe for only 26k

Privately it would be worth more. I could see the dealer listing yours for close to 40 if they bought it at 33.
But for obvious reasons it seems value is holding better for sedans, then coupes, and worst is convertibles. I feel like values haven't fallen though. I remember back when I graduated college in 2012, 3 year old E92's with about 30k miles were running 40k prices. They are still commanding a pretty significant coin for a clean example. The only values truly dropping are convertibles or mileage up into the 80k range. Those cars are dipping to upper 20's in prices |

Shop around other dealers, some may give you a higher appraisal but it won't be more than a few hundred bucks. In the end you might just have to bite the bullet and trade in...

When I lived in PA a guy down the street would buy convertibles in December and sell in April. Every year he'd have 4 to 5 cars parked on the grass in his back yard.

Last year I took my previous loaded '13 e92 ZCP to Carmax to get a quote. They offered me $46K...yeah, cringe. In 2 months I sold in via Autotrader for $54K. If you're not in a rush, try to sell privately.

Prices are solid in Vancouver Canada as there is very little stock available of E9x
Most dealerships (5 locally) have more used F8x M3/4 on the lot than E9x M3

The prices will continue to fall on average for the next 5-10 years. Pretty typical M depreciation curve. Actually, a pretty great curve compared to most cars!

The curve will reverse. Look at E30 or a low mileage E46 ZCP and their rise in values (US didn't get the right E36). With hybrids, FI, and smaller displacement engines, the E92 V8 is the last of the NAs. The value of a rightly optioned and taken care of E92 will rise in 5-10 years.

"The value of a rightly optioned and taken care of E92 will rise in 5-10 years." Sure if it is low mileage, but not a daily driver. A 100k mile plus E92 will not be worth much in 5 or 10 years, just like an E46 M3 with 100k miles is not worth much.

"I've always been able to get a $2-$3k more than the initial trade-in quote."
I told dealer 37,500, no counter off the 33k price.

RickP, I mentioned average price. There will always be outliers, but 90% (or greater) of the said number of e9x m3s still have a significant drop ahead of them. I know they're the last of their breed, and that's great, but I believe the curve that the other models followed will be similar in this case. It will take time for people to stop chasing the newest fastest thing and to look back. Many people herald the e46 M3 as the best M3 ever (last NA 6 that was the culmination for 40 years of inline 6 development) and yet there are many many (most all except perfect optioned low mileage) examples that are getting cheaper every day. I wish these cars were doing the air cooled p-car dance, but sadly they aren't...yet |

Yeah, it'll bring value. About 10-20k ranging from "needs rods and DCT" to "runs well and most problem areas addressed plus all new leather seats" ...or less. Which pretty much illustrates the current difference between high mileage 08s and pristine the 13s. About double the money to have the nice one.
I'm with you, I am. I'm just trying to be real and compare similar production numbers and overall trends. Neither of us really know. I enjoy the speculation :-) |
