Door Lock Question
My wife recently locked her purse inside the car with the keys in it. I thought that the vehicle couldn't be locked with the keys inside or at least give some sort of an audible warning if the door is shut with the keys still inside. Are all BMW's like this?

No, because when I try to lock my X5 with the keyfob still in the car, I get an audible alert and it doesn't lock.

It's not supposed to, but it's not 100% reliable. If it didn't get the signal at that particular moment, for whatever reason... maybe the battery is getting weak, maybe it was right next to a cell phone that blocked or otherwise interfered with the signal. People have had issues with their comfort open not working because their fob was in the same pocket as their cell phone. Also, if you use the BMW remote feature on your phone, you can remotely lock it, even with the key in it. Luckily, you can then use the same app to call BMW and have them unlock it.

Just tried mine, it won't lock. No audible signal, just doesn't do anything. Did she lock it using CA or another fob?

Thanks guys, it was purse+cell phone= locked car. She accidently left her purse with her phone in the car and when she got out, she activated the CA and it locked. Lesson learned!

Very interesting. I'm not an electronics expert, so I am curious as to how the cell phone interferes with the comfort access feature and confounds the car sensors into believing the fob resides externally but proximate to the car, when in fact it is still inside??

Well, if it can lock with the CA with key in the car, you should have no problem opening it back up, no?
Anyways, I came back from trip with my keys in my backpack, put the backpack in the trunk, then tried to lock the trunk via the lock button on there, it refused to acknowledge. |
