M3/M4 Reduced Horsepower During Break-In?
I searched, but couldn't find any info on this.
I thought I remember hearing someone say that for the first 1,200 miles, the ecu will reduce horsepower until that first service apt where the dealer indicates the service is complete, unlocking full hp. Is this a myth? Is it true? If true, how much of a reduction and where in the powerband? I am following break in guidelines on my F80, and even plan to pay out of pocket for the transmission fluid change at 1,200 miles, but am pretty curious if the engine is being throttled. |

Fact.
In myth land. Launch Control is enabled though. Car feels more powerful to most as they rev higher after 1200 and give it more beans.

I'm currently at about 400 miles and am more concerned about high speeds than high revs. I think the engine can handle a little abuse early on, but the differential is tied to wheel speed, and it needs to break in as well.
