Bought an E92 M3
Hi chaps, new to the forum, and just got my hands on my first M car
Mine is a 2008 with 50,000 miles, manual version. The dealer told me the throttle actuators have been replaced, although there is no evidence of this, but it does have full BMW service history. Based on my initial impressions of the car, it feels like a very good example which I hope will keep me happy for years to come. The gearbox feels good, 2nd gear is slightly more difficult to engage than all the others, but not bad. No clutch clip as far as I can tell. Although I looked for one with BMW dealer history, I don't think i'm inclined to use the dealer. I've heard bad reports from other BMW owners. Would it be wise to keep it BMW, or am I better off using a reputable specialist? Thanks for any tips or advice. |

Congrats. Not sure where in the NE you are located, but I'd find a good indy shop. I used Turner Motorsport in MA. They are great plus you can hang out there while they work on the car and check out all of the cool racing stuff they have. They have a flat screen with races playing and they also have a racing simulator you can use for free. Pretty cool stuff.

Welcome! Agreed on the independent shop, usually better prices too!

I've had better luck having my car serviced (and also having PPI's done) at indie shops versus dealerships. I think there are good dealerships out there, but it seems that indie shops are usually more enthusiast driven. I took my E46 M3 to a shop here that focuses on European cars, and every time I went in, the service advisor and I would discuss BMW M cars for at least half an hour after I picked my car up. It was great. Cheaper than the local BMW dealer, too.

Welcome!
Changing your shift knob to the ZHP or f10 weighted knob will help drastically with smoothing out your gear changes. Just search the forums and you will find hundreds of threads on the install and impressions.

Shouldn't the throttle body replacement be documented in the BMW dealer service history? Regardless, congrats on the new addition! I can't believe I'm the 7th one to respond and no one has demanded pictures yet... Let's see what she looks like!
