Auto stop start question
Am I being an idiot? The only way I seem I can keep the engine turned off with the stop start is keeping my foot brake on whilst in drive.
Can you keep the engine off without holding the foot brake or of course turning off the ignition? Thanks |

Not sure how it works in England but in the U.S. lifting your foot off the brake triggers the car to start. Otherwise how would the car know when to start and be ready to move when you want it to do so?

In my previous f30 you put the park gear on with the zf auto and you could release the brake pedal without the engine starting. It seems if you want auto stop start to work, you have to rest your foot in the brake pedal, which could be up to a minute at a set of lights

But the DCT differs in this respect. There isn't a "P" setting like in a traditional automatic.

What if you slip it into neutral when it cuts out with your foot on the brake and when you lift off you can pull the handbrake? Does that keep engine off? And when you re-engage drive or tap the brake will it start up again? Or you'll have to press start again I guess...
Just keep your foot on the brake

You are in an ///M. It's like a racehorse raring to go...
If your stopped and auto stop cuts in you need to be ready to drive away like a hooligan and beat everyone off the mark.. Why would you want to take your foot off the brake and relax lol. Of course the other option is to turn off auto start/stop so when you stop at the lights just brake and pull up handbrake. There is no creep so that will be fine, the engine will continue to run and you can give your feet a little rest. I read your other post today that mentioned this as well, I'm not judging but just confused. Are you trying to maximise fuel efficiency by keeping the engine off or just not have to keep your foot on brake when stopped but have no concern for fuel?

Is there a way to disable the auto stop/start function? I find them annoying. In my wife's Benz you can turn it off by pressing the Eco button under the radio controls every time you get in the car

You just have to push the button located directly on top of the ignition button and it will save automatically and always be off every time you turn the car on
