Automobile Magazine - M4 Competition Package

They spoke so little about the drive it seemed like they only took it for a quick spin around the block, but better than nothing:

Most useless review ever.

Sadly this is becoming the norm as publications push to get stories out and the quality of writing declines.
Most "reviews" are now a light paraphrase of the press release followed by one paragraph of "how's it drive" which consists of complaining of a lack of feel from the electric power steering, small complaints about turbo lag, and whenever it's a performance car that's not a Porsche, some nonsense comment about under steer and a lack of driver engagement.

Holy fucking shit, these reviews are getting more and more irrelevant. Wow, I can't really believe this was even published.

For sure, car mags are becoming irrelevant. Car forums where enthusiasts hang out give us the info we need. People own these cars, have time to try out the various settings, and have months/years of experience with them. And some have created excellent videos that are far better than the car mags.

I agree. I used to get C&D and Automobile. I let the former lapse and will likely do the same with the latter. I find them fairly boring now.

When was Automobile Magazine ever relevant? They've always been kind of like Consumer Reports, except less interesting.

Automobile Magazine was fun when it was launched by David E Davis Jr, Jean Lindamood, and a host of really good writers. The editorials were fun, the reports on road trips were interesting, and other relevant automotive stories made for a good read. Long gone now.
Road and Track had writers like Peter Egan. These mags are now just advertising schills with little worth reading.

In the latest issue (#8/2016)of SPORTAUTO(German carmag we all know of I guess)
the M4 comp is compared to the C63AMG S Coupé.

Around Hockenheim Short M4 Comp did 1:11.9 which is .3s faster than M2!

A sincere congratulations to the M4 Comp owners.

Cheers

Unfortunately those magazines live off advertisements, so they are in sort of a catch 22 situation.

I remember from a long time ago a PC magazine editor quit because he wanted to write an article supposedly critical of Apple and the boss wouldn't let him publish it, fear it would upset Jobs and they would lose advertisements.
