Gear Bars Reset?

OK -- here's the deal: This is a petty issue, but one that's just making me a bit pissy.

As you can see from the pic, I have the car in manual mode, 1st gear. The "power/shift" bars are at 3/5.

I recently has a problem wherein the passenger side window wouldn't come up properly; took it to the dealership, where the SA said he recoded the car so it would stop happening. Problem fixed.

But when he did this, it reset the "power/shift" bars so that each time I put the car in manual mode, I have to press the bars button twice to move it up to 5/5 bars. Before the recoding, I'd shift into manual and the car would automatically be at 5/5.

I don't seem to be able to find how to get it back to this state... anyone know what I need to do to make it so the car is set at 5/5 bars in manual mode when started/shifted into place?

(Hey -- I told you it was a petty issue...)

try setting mdm to automatic (D mode) and then press shift lever to engage manual mode. I think mine is at full five bars if you do.

This is only achieved with a DCT tune.

Strange Jester, should obviously remember your manual setting. Believe also the M3 manual state this which just might give you a chance to claim correction needed from the dealer.
Better check this myself, had my car fully reprogrammed by the dealer the other day!

D - remembers your shift bars.
Manual- you have to set the bars every time.

Any other variation is the result of DCT programming or a tune.

This is correct. I have the exact opposite experience with the GTS DCT Tune from Alex @ Alpine. Drivelogic mode saved for manual mode, defaults to D2 on auto mode.

I have the DCT tune... and the car doesn't feel like that was erased/covered somehow in the coding repair.

^^^^ Maybe you had a DCT tune and the dealer re-flashed it.

Is there a simple/non-invasive was I can check to make sure the DCT tune is still active?

Dealer wiped your tune. You'll need to get another one. They won't know what you're talking about.

...are you suggesting they truly won't know, or that they'll pull the ol', "Hey -- we don't know what you're talking about, man..." crap.

Most likely- there are only a few enthusiasts at any given dealership. Unless you're talking to them, they won't have a clue.
The best a dealer could probably do is a dinan tune. Chances are that you'll have to spoon feed it to them and explain what it is.

...so I alert the dealer (Apple BMW in York) that this occurred, and refer to the fact that the initial repair was to "replace a window control module," and that based on this diction, most customers wouldn't be aware that this involves recoding the entire vehicle. The GM, Zeth James, calls me, and tells that I should've alerted the dealership to the presence of the DCT tune, and that it's the customers responsibility to do so. I ask, POLITELY, "Could you tell me where this is written in your dealership info? I've never seen anything like that, and no one even hinted that losing a tune was a possibility for this repair.

Guess what his response was: "We don't want your business anymore. Take your car somewhere else."

WHOA.

So I tell him that my next call is to BMWNA to let them know what kind of "experience" I've had at his dealership, and he says, "Good luck with that, buddy," and hang up.

IF YOU LIVE IN THE CENTRAL PA AREA, DO NOT GO TO APPLE BMW. Go to Sun Motors, or an indy shop, or Faulkner BMW in Lancaster.

BMW dealers suck. I made the mistake of taking my car to one once.

I bought my used M3 from a dealer and *every* SA argued that they came with run flats from the factory... smh

I love Bergstrom (Enterprise) BMW in Appleton, WI. They are great, and truly treat the customer with respect and care about their satisfaction.

Not all dealers are bad.
