DCT newbie- Driving off and driving slow
Just got into a 2016 M4 - this one even has the Dinan Stage 1 software :-)
I traded in my 2016 435 xi and have all kinds of questions about my new car. The car doesn't start rolling unless I press the accelerator after shifting to 'D'. This is different than my earlier car and any other auto transmission car I guess (?). I am at a loss because this 'slow roll' without actually pressing the pedal helps me park in my tight garage. Pressing the pedal on my M4 causes a slight lurch which could put me through my garage wall. I am sure there is away I need to learn how to do this. Help? |

Yes, It's like a manual. Pressing the gas actually engages the clutch. In a tight space like a garage you can manually shift into 2nd gear, and to help, make sure the throttle is in efficient mode for easier modulation. Sport and sport+ will make it more challenging.
Anytime you might need to drive really slow like a parking garage or tight spaces it's best to keep the car in 2nd gear and efficient. Search for threads relating to the DCT Transmission jerking or bucking. This is a very sporty and aggressive transmissions and you have to learn it a little bit. |

Tap the accelerator it will have the same effect. It's described in the use manual.
