Road trips with F80
I ordered a F80 Silverstone on cohiba brown interior coming late august. From time to time, I take road trips for business. Is this car comfortable on road trips? I noticed the side bolsters are pretty aggressive in the seats. Does that get annoying? Gas mileage as advertised ?

We just got back from our first road trip yesterday. Bought my M 4 a month ago. Did 1800 miles over four days. Michigan to the Smokies. 1800 miles included two 625 mile days. One of them down there, the other one the return. Rest of the miles were playing in the mountains. My car had 1300 miles on when we left.
The seats are wonderful. We both loved their comfort. Side bolsters, etc not an issue. I am 5'11", 195 lbs. I left the bolsters un-inflated, except during play times. Mileage on both long days was all freeway. Cruise set at 74, 29.3 both days. DCT. Hell, I even got 18 MPG playing in the mountains. Bottom line for us. This car is wonderful. Couldn't be happier |

you know - for a true sports car - and not a motorway luxobarge cruiser - this car is extremely comfy imo. i regularly do 10h trips (all motorway) and am never worn out or sore (reference: i am 6'1" 225lbs). i have a new 2015 s-class sedan in the barn as well and normally would take that for long-haul travel - but - this bmw is such great fun, i end up taking it instead! now that is testimony! hahaha.
however, in the interest of full disclosure, i find the bmw loud. as. hell. on the motorways. i know i am probably spoiled with the vault-like silence of the s550 sedan, but dayem - the ///m is a noisy little monkey - road noise that is. as for fuel efficiency, i measured mpg once, i think. thought it was pretty good. but don't really care and never measured again. and as for side bolsters - they are not intrusive at all (and you can see from above that i am not a "slight" person). in fact, i track the ///m now and then and don't think they are supportive enough. but that is a topic for a different thread. |

The bolsters on the back of the seats are no problem. If youre a big guy who does not ignore leg day there is a chance the bottom bolsters will dig into the side of your thighs.

A couple weeks ago I took my F80 from the western Philly suburbs to CT, which was approximately a 4 hour drive each way. Was very comfortable....seats very supportive. No issue with side bolsters. No fatigue at all. Road noise was sometimes noticeable, but not an issue overall.
I drove with the suspension in sport the entire trip and this can make you a bit more aware of your innards after a few hours, but again, not enough for me to change to comfort Mileage was beyond good. With mostly highway driving, even being "spirited" with a few WOT mashes, I was up to around 28 mpg by the end of the trip. I'm actually taking her, in two days, up to Toronto ONT for a week.....so this will be the longest road trip yet. Should be fun. I am not looking forward to the rush hour traffic i'll have to navigate on the four-oh-one. I hate that road.....and i'm used to the schukyll expressway in philly.

I have done three 800 mile trips, and recently a 1,250 mile trip - two of them were with passengers. No issues whatsoever with comfort in any seat. And the gas mileage was 25, using efficient on the interstates.

15 of us did a 1000kms road trip in Europe and none of us had any complaints or problems with our cars. My trip actually totaled 2600kms from start to finish and I had my wife and 4 yrs old daughter with me the whole time.

I have a 2500mi trip starting next week - we all know the F8x isn't a lux cruiser but it's not terrible. Once you have the car for awhile you adjust. I had a 550 loaner for a bit and that was like a lazy boy on wheels. I would pick a 550 for a long trip over the M but in town and on twists it was leaving me less than excited.

From Seattle to la - nothing annoyed me at all.
From la to seattle- everything pissed me off, because I had to return to this cop infested state. Both drives were done with only stopping for petrol. The seats are excellent.

Car makes great highway car. Bumpy roads can get tiresome but on a smooth motorway it just eats up the miles.
On our ED we did Munich to Paris no problem. Week and half of ED put just slightly over 2000miles on the car. I am a huge guy 6'1" more lbs than I care to talk about. I've got the Vert so of course the seats are different, but super comfy no problems. Fuel economy - just did a highway blast from Houston to Dallas probably avg. 75-85mph and was getting ~26.7mpg. |

The M3/4 is not a "true sports car." A "sports car" is a stretch, but fine. True sportscars sacrifice little for sport (GT3, Exige, 4C, etc). Heck, I sometimes hesitate to call my 997TT a sports car, much less a "true sports car." The M3 is a great sports sedan - the best, IMO. |

I've done about 3000 miles in 4 weeks during my European trip. Super comfortable, no back-pain. Very stable suspension and stiff steering around the center point also helps in overall comfort.
The car is quite loud however at highway speeds, especially from the tires. Either way I think I felt more fresh than with the 5 series where seats are larger but the cushioning is softer. Hard cushioning on the M4 fits me well. My BMW history is 330d E46, 540i E60, 535i F10, 535d F10, M4 F82 |

15k miles on ours.
4 road trips. Each about 1,000 miles. Have driven for 7 hours straight. No complaints about seats. Tires can be noisy. 25mpg on the road trips, 24.1 since we got the car. |
