When am I supposed to get my oil changed?
I have a 2013 e92 M3
Right now I just hit a little over 20,000 miles. I just realized that I can't even remember the last time I got an oil change. My car is supposed to tell me right? I think I remember the last few oil changes it told me and sent me an e-mail. I check the service info in the nav and it says: Oil: 06/2017 in 10,000 miles That seems a little far away, I would have put definitely over 20,000 miles on since the last oil change. Also my car keeps burning through oil and I keep having to add more. |

I would recommend every 5k miles as well. The 15k miles that bmws recommends is absurd.

5-7K is probly the norm for most people on this forum. I usually shoot for 6-7K on mine. I agree the 15K interval BMW puts out is just crazy.

If in doubt, just change it. Because Why not? Have a peace of mind knowing that it is done period.
Personally I change the oil no more than 10k km (around 6k miles). Seemingly overkill, but again, peace of mind. Cheers!

Falling into the line; changing every 800k km/5k miles i.e. 3 times as often as BMWs rek schedule. Because nice feeling + make the car possible to sell one day.

5K change interval is absurd. Change your oil after every drive or 30 miles. Cheap insurance.

Rookies! Install a reservoir in the trunk fill it with oil. Then leave the drain plugs off and drive. You'll be dumping that bad oil on the street so saves you in having to dispose of it and you'll be pumping fresh oil "intravenously" while you drive
Plus it'll be easy to find your way home |

Yes I was told by a BMW mechanic around 7000 miles and only use Liqui Moly 10W-60

I drive about 10-12k per year and change the oil around January 1 and June 30. Easy to remember and the interval is 5-6k per change. Since the BMW interval is ludicrous 15k, you are safe and much easier to remember since your maintenance counter won't help you. Just change it during Christmas break and mid summer.... Boom! Easy peezy lemon squeezy!
