Here are come comparisons (keep in mind that I haven't completed the break in period on the M3):

1. Looks - they both have "dat ass" and curves and flares in the right spots; if anything the M3 could use a different color diffuser to help break up the "wall of white" in the back

2. Size - the M3 feel's massively huge compared to the 1M; in fact it is a little bit larger than my wife's Q5

3. Seating position - the M3 is spot on whereas the 1M you sit a bit higher

4. Interior quality - about the same with the M3 having a slight edge in fit and finish; they both have quite a bit of "soft plastic" (I got extended leather, not full); the leather in the M3 is obviously of a higher quality

5. Ergonomics and technology - the M3 wins here hands down except for the shifter position (which I find a little far forward) and the cruise control lever (like the old BMW stalk style better)

6. Seats - M3, no contest; also the CP seats are significantly different than the base M3 seats - you sit further down in them with more side bolstering

7. Shifter (6MT) - 1M is better with shorter throws, more direct, and better ergonomic position

8. Engine Sound - 1M is better and has that smooth I6 turbine sound; the M3 sounds a bit "truckish" - not sure if this is caused by the active sound

10. Exhaust Sound - M3 hands down; love the exhaust note and burbles of the M3 - it turns heads everywhere and is way better than the non CP exhaust

11. Power Delivery - the 1M hits like a sledge hammer (and thus is somewhat more exciting) whereas the M3 just continues to pour on the power; this is easily noticeable on the 1-2 shift in the 1M where the overboost will slam an unexpected passenger back into the seat; I do expect the M3 to be wicked once I can go full throttle and full revs - just different in the way it builds power

12. Acceleration - the M3 is way faster; no contest here - MPH just climbs rapidly and much faster than the "sense of speed"

13. Handling and steering - the M3 is handles and steers like a dream and is super neutral whereas the 1M is twitching and wants to dance (which is fun); I live about 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge parkway and have tested this extensively ; the M3 moves like no car that can comfortably seat 4 has a right to do so; while you do get "more feedback" from the 1Ms hydraulic system and there is some "artificial" feel in the M3, the M3 is still great and I have no complaints

14. Suspension - the 1M is stiffer and harsher riding even with the M3 on Sport Plus; those of you that think Sport Plus is too stiff need to ride in a 1M; the M3 does corner significantly flatter than the 1M

15. Value - M3 - I got a great deal on a local car spec'ed exactly how I would like (ZCP, extended leather, except maybe color - I was undecided); Also, the M3 is far more practical that the unicorn 1M with 4 doors and due to the rare/valuable nature of the 1M

Summary: Love both cars; the F80 ZCP = grown up 1M that is far more practical with 4 doors; can't wait to take my new daughter (first) for a spin in the M3 when she is born (any day now)

diffusers and spoilers look best on white b/c they're black.

2. Size - the M3 feel's massively huge compared to the 1M; in fact it is a little bit larger than my wife's Q5

This is good to know. Was considering a q5 for the wife. Myself, wife and kid were all comfortable in a 300 mile drive in the F80. Plus that's riding on a KW HAS kit in comfort mode and sometimes sport. Any smaller and it would be an issue. Can you comment on where the q5 was smaller? Cargo room?

3. Seating position - the M3 is spot on whereas the 1M you sit a bit higher

Can't beat the merino leather. Garb yourself some leather masters and wet her up for Maintainace

5. Ergonomics and technology - the M3 wins here hands down except for the shifter position (which I find a little far forward) and the cruise control lever (like the old BMW stalk style better)

Never liked the broomstick shifter. Changed it in my e36 too. Get the ///M performance one it's perfect.. And OEM.

6. Seats - M3, no contest; also the CP seats are significantly different than the base M3 seats - you sit further down in them with more side bolstering

Next ///M will be ZCP

7. Shifter (6MT) - 1M is better with shorter throws, more direct, and better ergonomic position

8. Engine Sound - 1M is better and has that smooth I6 turbine sound; the M3 sounds a bit "truckish" - not sure if this is caused by the active sound

You absolutely must delete active sound. you don't need it. To liven up th exhaust get and BMS valve controller or VF hex tune flash that bad boy. "OKEE" @ Codemycar.com is legit and does remote coding.

10. Exhaust Sound - M3 hands down; love the exhaust note and burbles of the M3 - it turns heads everywhere and is way better than the non CP exhaust

11. This is what i did not like about the car. Was not thrilling enough because of the flat torque curve. The VF tune will ramp up torque curve. Runs low 11's and can still haul family.
