Cruise control caused loss of power

So while driving my M3 this evening, I felt a complete loss of power. I assumed the car went into limp mode so I thought it would eventually go away but it didn't and it couldn't exceed 30km/h. I thought this was quite strange. I then saw "LIM" displayed on the speedometer... It occurred to me that I had activated cruise control... I have never used cruise control on the car before. I got a quick lesson of how it works.

Actually, it isn't the "Cruise Control" you activated, but rather the "Limiter"

OK I will bite, how does one activate the limiter, what does it do and why would you want to activate it?

My understanding is that you press the lim button on the steering and it defaults to 30km/h. Dont think can go lower than this. To increase you toggle the rubber type button upwards. The purpose of limiter is to prevent yourself from exceeding a certain speed limit (say in the instance of speed cameras). Having used this function on my wife's Merc it can get you in trouble at times. I was following a truck and needed to accelerate rapidly to overtake but it wouldn't allow me to. Luckily got out of that sticky situation unscathed.

I have no idea what you are talking about. To activate cruise control, you'll need to turn on the switch first, then set the speed. There is no default speed to speak of.

Plus, even if your cruising speed is set, you can still drive faster by stepping on the gas pedal momentarily.

Unless M3 is configured differently in South Africa
