WTB: genuine BMW E82 roof racks

Looking to see if anyone has any genuine BMW roof racks they would like to sell. Since upgrading from my LC 100 series to an E82 coupe I can no longer fit my mal in the car and summer is on its way!

Cheers

Hi there was a set recently on eBay for $200. I don't think they sold so search on completed items

The item number was:

genuine racks are great but usually made by Thule or the like anyway. You are probably better off buying Thule and then purchasing the different mounts suitable for all kinds of cars. i.e. my racks fit on both my e8x 1 series, e9x 3 series, e46 1 series and also the newer 1 series/3 series (I've also put on my parents Mercedes by purchasing the additional mount type for $48). The only difference between all would be the mounting width which you can adjust on most roof rack kits. Just my 2c

Hi mate, agree with hks200 on purchasing aftermarket.

I bought Yakima Whispbars from eBay - same part numbers as this one here (S5 and K571):

It fits perfectly in the factory mounts, and I have no problem putting bikes on the roof. You'd have to research if it is rated for your purposes though. Price seems to have gone up though (from $289 when I purchased).

Thanks guys. The only reason I was looking at the genuine racks was the mounting sits the brackets just up off the roof. The only contact is where the bolts sit into the factory mounts (and not on the paint on the roof). However I'm not planning on leaving them on for extended periods so this probably doesn't matter all that much.

You'll find them pop up on ebay or gumtree for $50 - 100 quite often

definitely agree I have the Thule WingBar in silver, depending on what you carry surprisingly you get a fair bit of wind noise on the 1 series. The racks bolt into the factory bolt mounts on the roof gutters so there is minimal paint touch. Happy to take pics of it mounted as well.

Fair enough regarding touching the paint. The rubber mounts of the Whispbar do touch around the mounting point. I sometimes put a bit of cling wrap on at the contact points on the paint work but it is a bit of a pain to do.
