If the backup camera becomes standard for MY2018, how will the Exec Pack change?

It is required that all new cars MY2018+ in the US market come standard with a backup camera. That is going to change the packaging for BMW significantly.

Since most people opt for the Executive Package simply for the backup camera, what do you think BMW will do to make the package more appealing? Base price of the car will probably increase $500-$1000, but will the Executive Package still cost $3000+? I would really like to add it simply for the HUD, but not for that price.

It's nice that over the years nearly everything that I have considered "must have" has become standard. (Keyless Access, Harman Kardon, Adaptive Suspension, Backup Camera, etc.) It seems that at this point unless a significant change is made to the packaging of options, the only package I will opt for is ZCP.

I didn't choose it for the camera. I chose it for the HUD and Comfort Access. The camera was a very small consideration.

I believe that the back up camera is required by May 2018, not for model year 2018 which would start some time in mid 2017. You may be looking at MY2019 for that, by which point I'm not sure if the F80 will still be in production?

Exactly the same thought here.

After looking into it, it looks like you're right. The backup camera will most likely begin to come standard with MY2019. Looks like I'm back to adding Exec pkg to my build. I believe F80 production will continue through MY2020 with MY2021 being the debut of the new generation.

Exec package probably going to cost the same, if not more. Maybe they'll add couple of gimmicky new features to justify the cost. Expect few more features added as standard and a base price to be increased accordingly.

I wish BMW NA allowed to la carte options. You can get parking assist in an F30 but not in M cars? Shame on you.

F80 production will end with MY2018.

When will it resume? Is that date already announced by BMW? 'Til which month of 2018 you can order the car, my OC like lease expires Oct 2018?

F80 production will cease 10/18. Better order that M3 early! LOL

HUD is Executive Pack now but to get the speed limit info (one of the things I really like about the HUD) I had to purchase the $1700 Driver Assistance Plus...maybe that will get rolled in??

Coupes usually stick around a year or two.

They could lower the price of the Exec package (seems unlikely) or replace the backup camera in it with either side and top view camera, speed limit info or blind spot assist and keep it the same price. That would reduce value of drivers assistance pkg but they can throw something else in that like Apple CarPlay.

So if 03/17 and later M4s will be MY2018, that means there are changes to the Executive Package as well since a reverse-camera must now be standard. Can you confirm?

The law states that all new cars built from May 2018 forward must have a backup camera. I dont believe that it applies to the "model year", so you'll have to wait another year before you see that "free" camera .

Yeah and of course cheap ass BMW will wait til the last minute. I generally don't bag on BMW for being cheap but not having a back-up camera on a 60k+ car stock when my 08 4runner has one is pretty freaking pathetic. The fact it's not a standalone option is robbery.

I agree. I would rather have all options offered individually like they have in Europe vs having "packages".

It used to be that way (...which I'm sure you know), but I think BMW streamlined the options in the interest of sales on pre-owned/lease returned vehicles.
