Motorsport January 2017 M3 CP and M2 featured in Car of the year test
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Laps on video: Comments: Cayman No turbo lag. Excellent transmission. Needs 40 more hp to improve acceleration, the chassis can take it easily. Perfect brakes. Average steering. Very high grip and stability. Focus RS Good engine with nice noise. Average transmission. Brakes with limited endurance. Suspensions too soft, but still very good chassis. A pleasant car. M2 Seens too heavy and gets taken away by its weight under braking. Rear axle not enough planted to the ground. Too much roll. Very good engine, better than Cayman. Good transmission. Carrera S Perfect driving position, very good chassis and steering. Good handling, but gets taken away by its weight (more than the Cayman). ABS too intrusive. F type SVR Engine is too big for the chassis. Power desn't go properly to the ground despite the AWD. Brakes good only for one lap. 200kg above optimum weight. Average chassis. A "muscle car". Camaro Surprising car. Very large car, average transmission and steering, but great chassis. Very stable rear. A good surprise ! C63S Coupe Bad brakes (lack of endurance). Good chassis and remarquable steering. Lack of motricity out of curves. Pleasant car with more body movement than the Camaro. Good transmission. M3 Pack Competition Better engine, chassis and transmission than Camaro & C63. Very good at curve entry, lack of motricity at exit. Better balance than its competitors. Less heavy than M2 and better damping than C63. Loved it. CTS-V Surprising. Expected something difficult to drive due to high power, but very high motricity. But "dumb" transmission. Very good chassis, handicaped by the heavy weight. Good brakes and steering. Z06 Perfect adaptation of chassis to the power. Good brakes, very good steering. Very stable in fast sections but lazy (more than M3) in slow portions. 675LT It's on a different level than the Z06. Driving position similar to a race car. Perfect transmission, better than PDK. Exceptionnal brakes. A little unstable at the limit, requires constant corrections. Requires a good driver to take full benefits.

718 Cayman S faster than 991.2 Carrera S at both tracks. Wow.

for sharing.
I am surprised to see the M3 beating the 991.2 CS around the long track Can you post the rest of the article so we can read it?

M3 was actually slightly slower than 991 on the shorter track. Very close though. It's the 718 time that has me surprised. Generally Porsche has them neutered in some way so as to not outperform the flagship. Not the case here.

That Comp Pack is no joke. Where are all the M2 fanboys saying that their "lighter" M2 is faster around the track
According to this specific track test, it kept up with the best of them!

The 718 times are incredible given it only has 350 hp and is literally beating up on cars that have almost 100 more. EDIT: car was PDK but the guys did not look like a great driver based on the video. Last edited by Motorsportenterprise; 12-17-2016 at 04:24 PM.. |

I'm very impressed that the M3 was this competitive. I keep hearing how the Cayman and especially a 911 is a lot more track focused because it's a real sports car compared to the M3/4 so very surprised the M3 did this well (especially as this is the latest P car versions and S models). Says a lot that a comfy sedan with a good back seat can perform at this level stock.

Almost all of this is on course for what's already been written about these cars, not too many surprises (e.g., the Z06 is a monster, the 675LT is in the stratosphere), but a very good showing for the M3 ZCP.

This is amazing. Finally I get to see what my F80 ZCP can do! ANd vs 991C2S it killed it on the long track!!
No more GTS tests PLEASE. So sick and tired of seeing a car barely anyone owns everywhere. |
