IDK, but I would like to know the answer to that question too.

I know the engine is the venerable N20, which has both OEM and aftermarket tuning kits available, but nothing that I can find expressly stated for the X5 40e.

It is not available, but you can always add a RaceChip.

+1... I don't get it... I've also read someone wanting MPE exhaust on a electric car.

Brave move with a system in place managing both electric and petrol engine at the same time, this is maybe the reason why no options exist plus the market argument, I see very few venturing into this kind of mod with e40.

Well, people with ActiveHybrid 3, 5, and 7 been modifying those cars.
I don't think there are major differences between the ActiveHybrid and Plug-in Hybrid except the battery capacity and ability to charge it like an electric car. Oh and smaller engine.
The ActiveHybrid all using big motors.

Leave the 40e alone. As said above, and I agree, if you wanted to modify it, you should've gone standard diesel/petrol instead.

The benefits of the electric motor is not just fuel efficiency. The availability of instant torque ameliorates some of the shortcomings of the torque converter and auto start stop and turbo lag. So if there is a a solution to improve the performance of the ICE without a significant loss in fuel efficiency - it actually makes a lot of sense.
