Question about break in
I have a 2017 M4 F83, I have ensured to stay in the 4000-5500 RPM range most of the time but there were times that I needed to accelerate fast to avoid an accident and the RPM jumped to 7000 RPM for a brief while.
This happened about 3 times.... Is this gonna do any damage or is it ok if it was just 3 times for a brief moment? Secondly, my car is having the break-in service done now..... Can I rev it up all the way to 7300 RPM now or shall I still take it easy until it reaches 5000 KMS? I know the manual states that you can increase the RPM gradually but do not exceed X speed. I am not gonna go fast anyway but what about acceleration and RPM range between 2000-5000 KMS? |

You are fine. I'm not going to get into it as it's been discussed here over and over again. But you are fine.

You are fine but perhaps consider revising your driving habits if you regularly need to redline your car to avoid an accident.

lol Why would you buy an M car to drive at 50mph? lol
M cars are designed to be used hard. You certainly don't have to flog the thing, but it's a waste of money to drive like it's a Camry. |

Your original comment makes it sound like you drive your car with the RPM's always in the 4400-5500 range. So at any speed you try to run between this rpm Range. I am sure you misspoke or was misinterpreted.

If it was so important to prevent any failure, BMW would have limited the RPM's like it does at a cold start. I believe the manual is just a general guideline, no exact science. It does not account for cold or warm weather, it does not say anything about heat cycling etc etc.
Just not drive it at the limit all the time.....

I think the answer I'd like to know is if the Performance Center breaks in their cars according to the manual before getting flogged everyday. All the cars I drove there had over 1200 miles on the odometer.
