Alpine's iLX-107 - Apple CarPlay

I've been following this one and looks like it could be a winner. Anyone else interested in adding CarPlay?

Following this too, but it looks like it's been delayed! Wireless CarPlay would be great.

Apple TV is kind of better. It can be done for super cheap.

CarPlay is pretty darn good (added it to my prior car) but it means giving up iDrive and everything else, unless you have a stripper M3.

FBas and some coding. I do not have control with idrive. I can only select "TV" from idrive and bring up the Apple TV. From there on I use the Apple TV remote. IR repeater makes it respond to the eye I placed underneath the CIC. iPhone I use for 6nr is the hotspot for Apple TV. How else do you watch the Stanley Cup when you work 12 hour days? I would like to work out the resolution to full screen but for now I have the same res as 6nr video play.

Just tap into FBas for video and aux1 of combox for audio. Code TV into CIC. Assign proper FBas to TV option (21,22,23) depending on which FBas you tap into on CIC (there's 3). Then plug HDMI to component converter in and wire up the RCA ends to the above mentioned points. Round trip cost not including AppleTv is around $60 bucks for the converter. It will only run 720x480 best res. This is the video res for 6nr videos (2/3 screen). I cannot figure out how to set resolution to the FBas for full screen or if it even can be setup without tapping in to LVDS wire.

This isn't CarPlay, this actually works. What is a stripper M3 my man? Also you have to give nothing up here. Still have functional 6nr apps and this is on FBas 21 my AppleTv is fbas 22.

I wasn't referring to your post about Apple TV. I was talking about replacing the whole head unit to install a head unit with Apple Carplay. Carplay is not at all the same as AppleTV. Carplay is Apple's integration software for a car to replicate many of the iPhone functions through your head unit, like phone calls, text, navigation, music apps, podcasts, etc. My point was that if you have a CIC unit, you can't easily integrate a unit with Carplay unless you have an M3 wthout CIC, Nav, etc. and you can just install a standalone headunit. AppleTV is something different. There's no bluetooth integration, etc.

I gotcha. Apple TV 3rd gen and up have Bluetooth. You are correct that it will not facilitate phone conversations though, just music.

iDataLink Maestro, which is the interface this HU uses for retaining factory features, is not compatible with BMW's

I have it with a Pioneer deck on my Toyota and it works as advertised, though
