I am a worry wart, please tell me...

Hi guys, as some of you may know, I recently picked up my SSII 6pd on Saturday afternoon.

I am very anal about all my cars (I always check for new scratches, dents, parks at the end of the parking lot WHEREVER I park, etc), and today this afternoon while exiting the lot, I drove for about 1min to about 2min with the Emergency break on

Every single time I get in the car I get a huge smile and look forward to the experience of driving my first //M car. I had the Emergency break up when I entered the car, and then put it down (thought I had it all the way down) while I reversed then forwarded out.

I was driving slow (because I was exiting the parking lot), when about 1 min /1/2 to 2 min in I hear a warning sound, and the display was flashing that I had my E-Brake on. I didnt release it all the way (was on the very last notch, if you will) as I am still getting accustomed to the car and I have not developed the habit yet to check the dash of the car before driving.

Guess my question is, and I know people will think it is a dumb quesion, but I love this new baby so I caved in an had to ask: Did I damage my rear brakes?

if you didnt feel it, then no... happens all the time, the warning will come on if the brake handle is locked above the "off" position, though it may still not be engaged.

The main problem from driving with the E-brake on is heat damage. You didn't drive far or fast enough to create a lot of heat. You'll be fine.

Ya your ok as you DID put the E-brake down but it just didnt engage
all the way down so just the bottom end portion wasnt fully down so your
brakes werent fully clamped, Its not a big deal!
It still happens to me on my E46 M3 sometimes when im in a hurry!
I mess up and dont put it down all the way.... No Biggy!!!

Yeah, dude, happened to me a few times on my e92 335i, where I put the E brake down but it is like an inch from being locked in the "OFF" position. At that point the emergency break isn't engaged but the sensor is so sensitive the computer dings at you if its even up the tinniest bit.

Don't sweat it, you're good

hahaha. It is not even close if at least you had the break fully up but almost down and driving in a parking lot. nothing.

these kind of things are often warning signs that something bigger is coming up. be on on the look out !

I always drive with handbrake engaged....The car stops so much faster when I take my foot off the gas. The brake pads last longer also.... No harm done to your car. I think everyone has driven from time to time with the handbrake not totally disengaged. Don't sweat it. In fact somewhere in the owner's manual they state if your handbrake isn't holding as well as it should, to drive about a half-mile with the handbrake on to "rough up" the shoes.

nooo! I meant if you obsess to much about one thing something else is bound to happen. like looking at the dashboard lights continuously or looking down at the pedals to detect a squeaking noise next you know you run into something. Happens more with new cars.

The car is so well assembled with solid materials that it can withstand a continuous trashing with no effects.
