Really Considering Buying This Car

I drove the car and it drives fine, no weird noises like tapping or ticking coming from the motor that I can hear. Strong and smooth power and it shifted flawlessly. It does not have the navigation in the dash which I thought was interesting. It currently has brand new Michelin snow tires on it right now that will have to be swapped out for some street tires in a month or so and the seat belt holder/retracter thing made this horrible noise when I opened the door, scared the hell out of me. Do you really need that thing anyway? The interior look good needs a cleaning but other then that it seems like a solid car. The price at that mileage is making this hard not to pull the trigger.

I have been trolling this board for while gathering info about these cars since I have been thinking about getting into one, Just would like some serious opinions on the car Thanks

That's a great price. Ask them for the carfax. See how well it has been maintained. I know a lot of people pull the fuse to the seat belt helper because it annoys them. That shouldn't stop you from buying this car. Its probably not going to last too long at that price so don't wait too long to decide. But do your due diligence. But i always tell people if you fish at the bottom of the sea all you will catch is ugly fish.

I was actually thinking about going over there today and putting a $1000 deposit on the car and then sending it over to the local dealer to have a PPI done

Need thorough PPI, maintenance history, ownership history, accident history in order to make informed decision. Don't know market for that car but nobody sells below market without reason. Good luck! (Had a ZHP for 8 years and loved it!)

Do it if they will allow. Strippers as they call it are very sought after by purist. The idrive from that era is truly a piece of junk anyway.

Obviously this car has been in a collision. Dealer knows it too. If it's too good to be true then it probably is.

OP,

Asking price seems compelling IMO. As others have pointed out PPI will help you plan your future maintenance costs if you decide to pull the trigger. Since this car is now 2 years past its original warranty, it would be even more attractive if it has an extended warranty from BMW.

CAUTION: If you've been lurking on this forum, then you'll know that there are hidden maintenance costs too, some of which can be hell-acious. Even with a clean history, get your wallet ready to address these.

I don't see it and nothing stood out to me as out of place when I saw the car in person. I just called the dealer and asked for the carfax when I get it I will post it here.

Price seems very compelling to me as well and you are correct maintenance cost on these cars can get crazy, fortunately I am pretty handy and not afraid to tackle moderate mechanical jobs. Asking BMW to CPO certify it was gonna be one of my questions when I get the PPI done. Right now I am just waiting for the dealer to email me the carfax.

Price is too good to be true. There is a reason...and as others have suggested, it's likely because it's been in an accident. Run a CarFax on it before you spend the money on a PPI. Then when you find an accident history, if you're still interested, you can tell the PPI mechanic to look for the repair work among all the other items. A fender bender is one thing, a big hit to the frame is another.

yup, someone caught it well
the moment I saw that trunk/body in the rear, I'm running away from this car no matter what the carfax says. it just shows right there, I don't know why this car is considered.

just a tip, don't always trust carfax 100%, car can be in the worst incident and still has a clean carfax.

That's true i would guess most accidents are not reported to dmv. I see the right rear lights not alligning correctly but you get what you pay for. It's not a 40k car. There's a reason why things are priced the way they are. Every car has a buyer. Mine isn't perfect either but it's good enough for the price i paid.

Yeah...This can be a car with surprises

To make sure let read the history of the keyfob and contact the previous owner for more information .
I saw also in the pics that they *messed up* the Novillo leather with some shiny greasy stuff to make it look better ...but think they made it worse .
These days we never know..Be carefull man !

Still waiting on the carfax, interesting to me how I have called twice about it and still have not received it. A good friend of mine who is local just stopped by the lot to take a quick peak at the car and he confirmed right rear side body damage with a shotty repair that I didn't see when I drove the car.

Got to love the internet forums, you guys don't miss anything.

Besides the damage, I think you will regret not having the iDrive/NAV. The 09 comes with the newer style system and I love mine. That radio looks weak!
