Was there a US model year 2007 M3?

I am looking at a used M3 convertible that the owner says is a 2007. I haven't seen the VIN yet, which will clear up a lot, I suppose. In the meantime I've been researching the car and its current value and every time I look on KBB or Edmunds for model year 2007, nothing shows up. I see 2006 and 2008, but there's obviously a huge gap between those years.

So I'm wondering if for some reason there was no MY 2007 M3 sold in the US? Strange, but I think it's happened before with other brands.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Peter

In Europe and other countries the car model is determined by the date it sold so a car purchased in Nov 2007 is designated a 2007 car. One possibility is the car was originally sold to a US service member while stationed in Europe and then the car was imported to the US.

In the US, the M3 started as an '08 model year but likely had cars sold in late 2007 as we start model years early. Perhaps the owner is simply thinking about the car initially being purchased in late 2007. But bottom line is there are no "official" MY 2007 cars in the U.S.

Edit: and in doing some research, the convertible wasn't even introduced until 2008 so simply can't be a 2007...

08 was first MY designation for the US market I believe. My car is a Dec 07 build, the earliest build I've seen in the states is October 07. In euro spec cars we've seen down to June or July 07 builds.

The convertibles were released after the coupe I believe as they were the last model of M3 in production. Coupe ended production in july 2013, convertible went on at least to september or later.

So odd how they set the years up. My 2011 was built in April of 2010.
