While they do look great and very OEM... my concerns are the intergity of the wheels.
Why fake wheels can be potentially dangerous.

Well on my last 550i, my aftermarket ebay wheels were stronger than my OEM wheels, which kept cracking on the inside barrel. I'm sure those pictures are from hitting some serious curbs.

Coming from someone who just dropped a lot of money on some 599m wheels I can empathize with the high cost. That being said replica wheels are not always the same as aftermarket wheels sold on Tirerack, Discount Tires etc. By nature they are counterfeit and do not always abide by the same US government safety testing regulations that say BBS would be subject to. These replica wheels are never made in the same manufacturing plant as the OEM wheels. Why would any company risk a huge contract with BMW to sell some cheaper wheels on the side? Ultimately I choose to go with the OEM version because I know they are safe. I wouldn't roll the dice with my family's safety on a replica set they may or may not be as safe...

Did yours come with a lifetime structural warranty? Some of the aftermarket ones on fleabay do, and the seller's ratings are pretty damn good for being in business 4+ years.

What's frightening is that there are BMWs and other cars out there being sold or traded in with fake wheels, unbeknownst to the buyer.

But yeah, next time you buy a car you have to put it on jacks to make sure the rims are legit. I wonder if dealers check this as part of certification? Surely they can't take on another $3-4K to swap out to legal rims before calling it a true CPO? I know putting new tires on when needed is 100% part of CPO. |

I'm guilty of buying ebay replicas too, style 468: https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-Wheels-4...d/152618759435
I'm sure they are not as strong as oem. On the positive note tho the seller has 100% reputation and he gave me lifetime structural warranty. I doubt he wouldhave done so if rims were made poorly in China. I think not all replicas are bad. I'm happily rolling on those rims with no issues so far. I agree with safety concerns, but these rims are made in Italy and EU has strict rules for manufacturing. BTW many oem BMW rims are made in Italy too (check the back of your rim and some of you may find it made in Italy) - simply because there aren't many factories that produce rims in the world, much more brands than factories - so chances are many brands are produces in the same place. Usually Italy and Taiwan are safer bets, even oem BMW rims are produced there. China - not so much, I would probably avoid, unless you know for sure where and how are they produced Some factories in EU (Italy for one) produce rims for both oem and aftermarket. Many aftermarket known brands are very good quality. The key factor here is to buy from reputable seller and buy rims made in EU or US (preferably) to avoid outright bad ones Most of accidents with cracked in half rims happens during some serious fender bender or curb hit. It's very rare to find some rim, even China cheap one that will crack in half during normal driving imho - just my opinion P.S. I checked his store and yes, his rims come with Lifetime structural warranty and he sold lots of rims, not every seller will do that if rims were not trustworthy imho. It's just not worth it for seller to deal with poor quality rims - times changed, it's easier to choose and do business with known suppliers Last edited by DuSh; 02-04-2018 at 05:55 PM.. |

There are some quite nice replicas under $1000. Truth be told, tire options are dwindling in the 22s. |
