Advice: Should I trade in my '16 M3 for an '18 M3?
Hi, I currently had a '16 M3 without Comp. Package.
Fully loaded, 8500 miles. Payoff around $61000. Based on MMR, the selling price for my '16 M3 should be around $63000. (dont know how accurate is that). Want to get a '18 M3 with Comp package, fully-loaded. If I can get a trade in value even out the payoff. Should I do it?

I would stay with you current M3 unless moving onto another type of vehicle. I have a 2015 M3 with a MSRP of 77k and back in Nov. of 2016 I was looking at a new Z06. My M3 at the time had 11k miles and they (Chevy dealership) offered me 48k. My M3 has the full front covered with paint protection film. There are no dents or dings and only very minor chips in the windshield. I even spoke with my BMW dealership since they know my vehicle and they stated the Chevy dealership was in the ball park with their trade estimate. Kelly blue book trade was 56k and I believe NADA was 1 to 2k higher. The market/ area and what the vehicles may be selling for at auction will dictate the value of vehicles at least that is my belief.
If you track the M3 then the competition package may have value. I personally do not like the wheels on the comp package and they would be the first thing I would change. Even before the comp package came out I had already changed the front grill, side emblems and rear emblem to black. I myself do not track my M3 and only engage in spirited driving on windy roads and the standard M3 fits the bill for me. You could always install the new headlights in your M3 along with other modifications. However at the end of the day if the 2018 is what you want and price that you get for your current M3 is acceptable it might be the way to go. This is coming from a guy who bought a new Corvette in 1992 when the LT1 (300hp) was introduced and the vehicle I bought had an automatic transmission. Then in 1994 I traded the 92 in for a new 94 Corvette with the manual (6 speed) transmission just to get the manual transmission. |

Not in finance I'm assuming. Financial literacy is so poor in the U.S. If you're going to be snarky, you should at least know your sh$t.

Get the 2018... You already know people around town are judging you because you don't have ZCP and the other updates.
Who cares about the sales tax and other fees. By flipping cars every couple of years, you really portray a lifestyle of "I know what I want and I will achieve what I want." I hear that a man with conviction really appeals to the ladies. (or men if you swing that way) |

BMW really has some owners by the balls. Unless it was a change of model or lease end upgrade, I would never take that much of a hit on my vehicle.

I'd go for it if you truly love the car and won't get smoked on your trade. You're probably going to take a $5k hit. Not bad if you can get an '18 comp pack at a 5k discount. Keep in mind that beyond 2018, the DCT will no longer be an option. The Comp package car is considerably better than the base car. You only live once. Get what you want and be happy.

As in you still have $61,000 left on the loan? Jesus I'd hate to see the interest on that if that's the case. My personal advice is don't do it unless you're really unhappy with the car. ZCP cosmetics can be retrofitted for less than buying new again. Greater performance can be had with aftermarket tuning (Pure turbos and flash).

This is really a value question. Try to remember that CP is a package, not a model. It is a significant package that changes the dynamics of the car, that said, it is still only a package. If you're going to take a serious financial hit, you have to weigh that.
Look at the CP as if it were another package and ask yourself the same question. Would you trade up to get the Executive Package? If you can say yes and take that financial hit, then yes. Go for it. |

Not sure how different the 2016 is from the 2015, but my 2018 M4 LCI ZCP is dramatically different than a 2015 M4 I test drove. I did not like the 2015 when I drove it but was really impressed when I got to drive a 2017 non-ZCP.
