My Shift Knob Came Off!

I'm feeling quite comfortable with the car now after 3 weeks of ownership. Earlier tonight was my first time revving it to 8000 doing a 1st to 2nd gear change and as I pulled back into 2nd the knob popped right off. Fiancé thought it was hilarious.

It's the shorter ZHP knob. My question is, how are these knobs secured? I've read about a wire and a ring but I see neither. The knob now easily slides on and off.

Your rod bearings are going bad... I'll take the car for 25K. Oh wait, you revved it to 8K? Best I can do is 21K..

Seems like you pulled it pretty hard. My best guess would be to glue it back on with some gorilla glue inside the knob and slide it on.

Make sure the wire is plugged in and then push the knob straight down.

I don't see any wire, but I pushed down hard and heard an audible "click". So I'm satisfied now. It's snug

If it's a fleabay knob burn it, run it over and then throw it in the garbage. If it's a genuine bmw knob push it in until it snaps in. DON'T USE ANY GLUE!!

The wire exists to illuminate the knob. The F10 M5 knob is illuminated, and the ZHP knob is not. They are both weighted.

So if ya don't see a wire, then the knob isn't illuminated and probably tucked away.

Push till it snaps. The shift knob that is...

If you pre-polish the knob it will go in easier.

my ZHP knob did that as well when i had my 04 ZHP.

on the shift lever there is a Chanel.

|| || < looks like this, IIRC. what i did was wedge a thin piece of plastic then just reinstalled the knob

Was going to suggest you get your wife to spit on it. Nevermind.
