Pad Burned Onto Rotor after 1 Track Day

Hey Guys,

In the process of Obtaining PFC 08 to hopefully scrape this down. This was from a track day on OEM pads. What do you think?

Did you park the car with hot brakes?

Consider using one of these on your power drill:

Maybe next track day try to get a cool down lap after pushing the car. Also try and park on level ground and chock the tires as opposed to using brakes or parking brake. Applying a parking brake after laps may warp the inner hat. This is the result of you staying stationery with brakes applied to HOT ASS ROTORS!

Not only are your rotors hot but the pads are hot as well. A long cool down lap or drive at moderate speeds (>25 MPH) to have a good amount of airflow is very important.

I recommend bringing a leaf blower to track days and alternating blowing air at the pads and rotors all around when you're parked. It'll help avoid heat building up between the pads. It's a low tech but very effective solution that's used even in F1.

I've found the times I don't get a cool down lap at the track, I usually do a few laps around the paddock at regular paddock speeds will help before parking.

The disc may be toast, but it may be okay. As you suggested, run the race pad cold on the disc and try to scrape it off. You may even want to hit that spot with a medium grit sand paper beforehand, since that pad deposit is so thick. We did a video on swapping pads that may be helpful (see below).

I'm sure I probably don't have to tell you this now, but don't ever run stock pads on the track. Regardless of what the manufacturer tells you, pads designed to quietly take you to the grocery store are not optimized for the searing heat of track use. When they overheat, they will essentially melt and stick to the discs as you have seen.
