DCT Clunking under light throttle (warm engine)

Hey guys, I tried doing a search but didn't see anything relating to my DCT quirk under normal driving conditions (e.g. not a cold engine).

I wanted to see if anyone else experiences this.

When I'm cruising around 50-60 mph in 6th gear with very little throttle load, if I let go, I get a slight clunk. Now coasting, when I press on the throttle, I get a slightly louder clunk. Is this normal?

It seems most prevalent driving in sports throttle, D2. I want to reiterate that I'm not flooring the pedal, but rather very light throttle. I hear it when I let it off (very slight clunk), then a more noticeable clunk when I press on the throttle again (lightly) in 6th gear.

Yup, mine does this. My E92 M3 did too. Lots of groans from the driveline of every M I've owned, same thing with my GT P-cars.

It might be pure placebo effect but in the past I've used a reset procedure I read about and it seems to eliminate excessive clunks for my DCT. YMMV

This seems a bit unusual but I haven't seen 6th gear in a year (and never at 60 mph) and only drive in manual so maybe I just don't notice it.

I have had two F80 M3's neither did this, my latest is the CP and that does NOT do that.

Most likely you're hearing the dog clutches move in anticipation of a gear change. 5th and 7th share the same one which is at the very rear of the gearbox. For 5th it's closed, for 7th it's open.

I recently went to the dealer about a similar issue.
In my case, I noticed some clucking, primarily in Sport+ throttle, over 3k RPM, in on/off throttle situations.

The service head came and did a test drive with me.
He said it's normal and that all M3/M4 do it.
He also contacted BMW and they confirmed that it's normal.

Likely to be normal. Subframe directly mounted to the chassis along with assumingly stiffer drive train bushings will lead to more NVH. Because race car, right?

My 2015 does this too. The lead mechanic at the dealership drove it with me and said it's normal, a designed bit of tolerance in the differential.

why WHY did I buy a civic M4???

I heard the doors on the civic M's are made from empty beer cans collected after a FC Bayern Munich match.

OMG I am so happy I opted for the manual. Butter smooth, perfect shifts, rev matching when I want it and NO CLUNKING! I can even park on hills without drama lol
