E9x Attention Getter

So I was just got back from a short highway cruise at night in my stock E93 with the top down. 79F outside with the wind blowing in my hair in the left lane.

* A souped up WRX STi that looked more like a Evo pulls up near me and gives me the stare down before pulling away as I ignore it.

* A blonde in the passenger side of a suburban stares me down as her hubby drives by as I'm exiting the highway.

* I pull up to a light and teenagers behind me freak out checking out my ride. Heads bobbing.

* I drive by a Maserati and my kids tell me that my ride got the stare down.

* A Dodge Challenger tails me and then pulls up next to me before I pull away.

* I pull into BP to gas up and the guy in a Lex is staring at my vert.

Once again, this was 10pm at night. It's insane how the classic style of the E9x still catches eyes 4 years after production ended.

Should have taken on the WRX-STI. I took one on the highway recently in my E93.

Don't hate, he's just stating how the e9x m3 is still a looker. Whenever I'm with my wife she tells me people always look at the car, I told her it's because she's in it, I'm just too blind to see if anyone is looking at my car and never notice it

LOL!

All I did was drop my top and drive.

In fact, I was avoiding attention by maintaining the speed limit as I spotted many cops cruising the highway and pulling people over.

The last time someone made note of mine was a bro in an E46 M filling up next to me at the gas station, sees my E90 M and tells me he wants to "upgrade his life". Thought it was pretty funny.

Last night was Nissan dealer who said he wanted my M when I was ready to swap up for a GTR. I said no thanks.

Nobody gives a shit here in Seattle lol. A bike with a female passenger did mistake my spirited approach to an on-ramp as a challenge today though. I cringed and backed off as he divebombed past me into the turn and wobbled a bit running very wide, as he braked way too late. Scary...and with a passenger wtf.

Smooth operator!

The only people who check out or compliment my car are other enthusiasts, most of the time nobody gives it a second look. Maybe it's different for 'verts.

If you know how to detail your M3 properly and your paint finish is not degraded from years of average washing technique then the lines of the car will shine through and get quite a strong attention. The difference between a not detailed and a detailed M3 is zero to an almost annoying level of attention, good (compliments, thumbs up) and bad (jealous road behaviors).

I had my e90 shipped on a 3 car open transport and the trucker said the m3 attracted a lot of attention.

It's not the M3... its the convertible with the top down... I get just as many looks in my Crimson Red 135i convertible as I do in my Jet Black M3.

Joking aside, enjoy your car buddy, M3 is a beautiful car, I still stare at e46 M3s whenever I see one

My favorite moment: My girl had to use the restroom so I drop her off at the front of an In'n'Out. As she walks in she notices guys in line staring in her direction. She overhears one guy go: "You looking at the girl or the car?"

His friend immediately says: "The car."

I drive an alpine White E92 with the CF roof and for the life of me I can't figure out why it attracts the attention it does. Nearly every Sunday morning drive typically has at least several cars trying it in at the lights. From Tradie vans to the Holden Craptiva this morning.

The reason I struggle to see why people care is the new F32/33/36 cars look much more racey, with their swoops and curves. I thought ours would now become a little more ho-hum.

Mind you, I've think the E9x design is a great balance between aggressive and sleek. Almost timeless. It's not in the Ferrari 308/328 class of timeless (or even BMW's 507), but I think less is more and it will age better than some of the current, more angular BMWs. As will the E46 M3's. My 2 cents and apologies to any Fxx 3/4 series owners, it's just my opinion and I've definitely been wrong before (e.g. when I bought my new ST184 SX Coupe Toyota Celica in 1990 I said to my missus it was a "bold and timeless" design. She hated the car and history shows it to be considered a bit of a lemon).

Cool story. It is odd who notices these cars and who does not.

I can tell you on highways two things rarely happen to me in my E90M...few people tailgate me and folks generally get out of my way when I'm approaching. Whether that implies recognition or not, I don't know - but it happens none-the-less.

Also thought my car was fairly anonymous at work, but every one of my male charges knows exactly what it is and comments on it. I always make a point to tell them I bought it used and paid less for it then their (insert basically any new car here). They are always shocked by that.

It's the bulges (hood and fenders), the huge intake, the nostrils on the hood, the big wheels, the growling sound, and the 4 exhaust tips. That's what visually distinguishes the M from the base 3 series and gets them wet, and with my vert, that's something totally different.

I drove down the street and rounded the culdesac a few weeks ago and a MILF I know went dripping crazy seeing me in the vert. I had mentioned about half year ago that I was looking for one.

She commented that her husband recently got a new lease on a 2017 550 and is not happy...didn't like the biturbo. I told her about my NA engine and the reason why I got the 2013 and she agreed.

Another neighbor couldn't stop talking about his E3xx mercedes sedan that he was going to pick up in Germany and tour the plant. He took delivery of it about 5 months ago and was giving neighbors tours. I drove by him 2 months ago and his jaw dropped. I'm low key and no one really knew my status.

My favorite is when a guy with a 328i was parked next to my M3 and said "oh cool, we are driving the same car". I didn't have the heart to tell him that the M3 was not the same car. Which I have typically found that most people have no clue what the M series is. I will say that I think it depends on where you live. If you're in Los Angeles or Miami people tend to know what it is. I rarely see them in St Petersburg Fl where I live. But go 20 miles into Tampa and they are abundant.

I get this now and then but I just say "yep, nice cars" back to them. If they don't know the difference on their own, then they're not going to care. I love my car but if anyone asks about it, or it comes up in conversation, I try to downplay it as much as possible or redirect it to complimenting their car.
