My M3 lease is ending in 2019 - what should I do?

Right now I'm in a bit of a pickle. My lease ends May 2019. M3 production stops ~October 2018. I vastly prefer the M3 over the M4 for reasons that are not up for discussion here. But my options are few:

1. Wait till my lease ends, and get an M4.
2. Lease a second M3 for 9 months.
3. Look for an alternative high performance sedan.

Anyone else facing the same dilemma?

What is #2?

Anyway I'd go for #3 and if you are a BMW fan, by the time you return in 2022, you can lease whatever comes out by then. The way it goes it may be an ME (some m electric car).

Do European delivery for October. By the time car arrives in the states you will only have to have made roughly 3/4 double payments and will be able to turn in your lease early at the 120 days mark (earliest you can turn it in with out having to buy it out, you pay the remaining payments over the next year at 0% interest) or sell it to Carmax and pay the difference. This is what we are doing for my wife's car.

#2? Lease another M3 in late 2018 before they stop production. Just means I have 2 M3s for about 9 months, which can get expensive.

The benefit to #3 over #2 is that if what you say is true and the next M3 is a front wheel drive electric 2 seater... then I can plan to buy out my next M3 at the end of it's lease rather than lease the new model. If I opt for #1 or #3, I won't have an M3 (of my design as I want it) available.

If I do European Delivery, it will be September 2018 as my sister is planning on being in Northern Italy or there abouts to celebrate her 50th next year. So yes - had considered that. Wasn't aware of the ability to turn the lease in early (other than the Lease Pull Ahead program which doesn't apply to M) - still means I'm paying for it, just spread out over the year. I figure if I'm going to pay for those 3 months - why turn it in early?

I could look at the Carmax thing, but I don't have the cash in hand to buy out BMW to have a clear title to hand to them - or do they make alternate arrangements?

As to the why turn it in early, for me its the insurance. I do not want to pay the double insurance, which is expensive in California.

When you sell to Carmax, you write them a check for the difference and they handle everything from there.

Buy it out after your lease ends. I don't see why you would want to lease another M3 when practically nothing has changed from the car you have (other than the new headlights and updated iDrive).

Good to know - thanks!

For me, my insurance is about $100 a month so not a big consideration. I guess I'd be more worried about miles - if I'm near the end, give it back. If I'm not - road trip! Or at least use the old car as much as possible and save the miles on the new one!

Yeah - there is that. But also, depending on what they do to the next M3 (no 6MT?) this may be a last chance to spec one out and order it exactly as I want.

Sell the car prior to lease end. Carmax or private.

Provided that's viable. It's hard to say as I'm still 12 months out, but because I was thinking about ordering an Individual Manufaktur, I have to commit to the whole deal in advance.

Technically you dont. You are only committed once you sign the purchase order 45 days out. You basically have until 45 days out to change your mind. The dealer will be bummed but that is how it works. They will just keep the car for the showroom and try to sell it.

Yeah - true I guess. I'm just part of the "old British Empire" brought up to believe your word is your bond so if you say it's a deal...

Fair enough haha. I am just saying do not make that the only decision point.

Course, here in Chili they just want to keep the client so is not that bad, actually you can end the leasing wenever you want, with a fine, but is a small fine like 200 US every 100.000 US, chilean goberment have that regulated.
That's a way to grow the economy.

#2. You can assume an existing lease when you turn in your existing lease in 2019.

Ill be different and go with option 1. All the other options sound like such a hassle to me.

I'm lucky as I prefer the M4 and I'll be able to order one more F82 for ED when my lease ends in July 2019.

This could be the end of the road for me and BMW. I foresee a shit load of cars coming out of Bavaria that I have no interest in.

I would grab one more F8x ride before the shitstorm of electric, AWD, slushbox tranny M cars arrive.

The End is Nigh
