VIN number plate under windscreen fall, how to put it back

Weird thing happened yesterday. I was trying to place the parking ticket in front of the large sunshade to make sure it was visible. The ticket fell through the tiny gap between the dashboard and the windshield. It was visible from the small VIN area on the bottom left side of the window. I removed the ticket using post-its but the VIN number plate is no longer there. It must have gotten detached. Is there a simple way to retrieve it?
Thanks

I dont think this is a common problem. Id be worried that the vin had been removed and replaced considering how its rivited to the dash and should not be easy to get off just sliding something over or around it. I believe you would have to remove the dash to get to it. Its illegal to drive a car without the vin tag since they cant ticket you without it.

Nope. I think that even if 1000 members viewed this, you might not run into someone who had this happen. I'm just here to read what you posted.

I've never seen this happen, but I'll post a response since it may help.

I can't think of any easy way to retrieve it. The plaque is aluminum so a magnet won't work. If you can no longer see the plaque, then it has fallen down too far to access it without removing the dash.

I am the original owner of the car. 8th bday coming up in a few months. so nothing fishy there. literally the stupid parking ticket fell in that gap then the number plate came out. i guess i may just print a paper with the vin # and slide it there for my future parking tickets
