Question Connected Drive Retrofit

Hi all; I'm sure someone might already asked this question but I'm going to ask anyways. So I have a 2013 E92 M3, I bought since new while stationed in Germany. I'm now back state side and was trying to activate Connected Drive but come to find out that my Combox is set up for 2G and I need a 4G retrofit.
I contacted the dealer and they want to charge me 1/2 a days work for software update which is what the Service Department told me it entails.

Doing some reading I read that all I need is to code the VO with 6NR, get a 9C FSC to activate the service and program the vin on head unit. Is this all I really need or do I need to also change the Combox for a newer one? I will contact BMW Customer Relations and see if I can get them to pay for it since I've never used the service because the car was in Germany till now and the service was never used.

If everything else fails then who can I go with that will do the retrofit for way less than Stealership.

Connected Drive/BMW Apps is irrespective of the combox version you have - doesn't matter if it's the new or old one. The upgraded one just gets you assist, but nothing more in terms of connected drive services.

OK so I should be able to just add 6NR to the VO and FA activate the services from not active to active and not need an FSC?

Talking UPDATE!!!

This is the update to my situation! I called BMW customer relations yesterday and decided to escalate my complaint to higher, I received a call 3 to 4 hours later from a supervisor and I explained to him that I purchased the car while I was stationed in Germany and kept the car there for 4 years and was under the impression that my car would of been in BMWNA system due to being a US spec car, I also explained how much the local dealer quoted me to do the retrofit when all involve in the process is coding and activation of service as there was no need to replace the Combox. He was very helpful and ask me for the dealer's name and that he will get back to me withing the next 5 days.

Today I received a call from him and he was pleased to inform me that they approved my retrofit and all I need to pay is for the yearly subscription of the service. I'm very happy I don't have to pay out of pocket for the retrofit!!!

Bmw Apps / CD doesn't carry a yearly subscription as far as I know. BMW Assist does and would require a hardware change to support the newer 4G network. I'm not sure what you're paying for unless it's for assist, which does not get you Pandora / Spotify / and other CD app integration.

I'm paying for BMW Assist services. Everything else BMW is paying for. Based on FCPEuro.com my Combox part number is 4G compatible so I doubt they will need to replace it.

Update! The Dealer called me and yes they Ordered a New Combox for everything to work properly!
