How bad is 20min plus idle?

Hey Guys,

Just got my 2012 Space Gray E92 M3 and im in love! I have a concern that I need guidance on...

Sometimes I need to leave the motor running for 20-30min at a time. Done this about 5 times already. Is it as bad as I think it is for my motor? Does it not do any harm as long as oil and water temps in check?

Idling a modern engine is fine.

At our mine site, from the month of October to April, vehicles run pretty much continuously.

20 mins idle is less stress than 20 mins at the tracks....so why care?

Just let it sit idle for 45 seconds after you do a cold start, then drive off
Just let it sit idle for 5 minutes after a drive.

Well I came from a turbo car, and one of the things you should do is let the car idle for a bit to have the oil go through and cool things down.

I do the same with my M3 just a force of habit

i tend to let it idle for about 15-20 seconds after i park to let it "settle down." no rational reason, i'm just a little weird.

I don't think it should be a problem. I had a modded 335i before my M. One day I left the car running from 7 am to 4.30 pm. Damn Comfort access I had to switch car in a hurry and forgot to turn it off stupid me and didn't have any problem beside waste of gas :/
