Retro-fitting of options

Which OEM options can be retro-fitted on the M3? ... esp when someone has already got his/her car and they go: "damn i should have gotten x option"

for example i know Bluetooth can be retro-fitted once a car has already been built ... of course the 19" oem wheels ... what other options on the M3 can be retro-fitted?

I'm pretty sure things like CD changer / iPod interface etc can be. Obviously things like mats, pedal trim etc. Any of the "CF" garnishing as well.

What you're not going to be retro-fitting at the dealer is things like M-DCT, sun-roof, dash-trim, seat and side colour, etc

Cheers!

I see no reason why dash-trim and seat and side color can't be retrofitted... not that it would be cheap, but it can absolutely be done.

Anything could be retrofitted given the right amount of time and money.

There's going to be a plug and play kit that will cost about 1/2 of the OEM retrofit kit (~$300). It will be offered by EAS and give you all the radio display and steering wheel controls, in addition it will offer firmware upgradablity to be more future proof which the OEM unit does not. So it's even better than the OEM bluetooth.

I'm getting Sat Radio retrofitted. A couple hundred bucks more... but it was either that or wait 2 extra months for the otherwise exact same car.

One exception may be switching from a carbon fiber roof to a steel roof with a moonroof.

The easiest way to retrofit features is to go to the dealer and trade your car in for the new one. repeat every years as new options come out.

I am doing the exact same thing with the Sirius. The HD radio cannot be retro fitted as stated by 2 dealers.

USB/Ipod interface cannot be retrofitted I think, so make sure to get it with the car when you order

Bluetooth can only be retrofitted if option 640 mobile telephone prep option is selected when you order the car

Complete and utter crap. The OEM BMW Assist and Bluetooth TCU can be firmware flashed if required.

I will prolly research and retrofit the folding mirrors. Just need to get a parts CD and figure it out. Should not be that hard. The wiring is prolly there, just need to be hooked up and motor/switch install.

You can retro a lot of stuff within reason. You mentioned the sunshades....I am sure it ca be done fairly easily. I was looking at the E55's a while back and looked into to cost of retofiting a non-shades equiped car with shades. It was do-able, but for other reasons, I held off on that car (brakes primarily).

In the near future, there will prolly be several DIY guides here and elsewhere on how to retrofit this and that....just be patient, or research and figure it out yourself. that is what I plan to do.

I personally do not know the steps, but my dealer said they'll do it for $800. But that figure eventually turned into $0 once I agreed to pay sticker. What a deal!

Most dealers will do it. Another dealer quoted me the same $800 price when I was thinking about taking one off the lot. So it can be done.

Thanks
I wonder what they actually do. So it's a software thing and not hardware? I know the HD radio option I ordered has a raised box in the trunk so it's clearly a factory installed hardware unit. I guess the SAT is not?
