Saved someone’s silver M3 from a major ding

I was at Ikea today and i had just parked and was walking towards the entrance when i saw a guy take his wrangler and ram a cart out of the way because someone had left the cart in front of his parked jeep and the cart came racing towards a silver m3 that was parked a few cars in front of me. I ran forward and stopped the cart before it hit.

Quite a few years back, coming out of the grocery store and leisurely walking towards my car, I notice a lady unpacking her grocery cart into the trunk of her Infinity. When she’s done, she just shoves the cart across the parking aisle to get red of it. The cart rolls directly towards my parked M3 and hits it on the rear bumper. I am too far away to attempt anything, so I shout “hey lady, what the hell is wrong with you? That's my car”, to which she snottily replies “calm down, it’s just a car”. When I get to my M3, I notice 2 small indentations on the bumper. At this point I am fuming and the lady is backing out of her parking space. So I shove the cart back across the parking aisle quite forcefully which rams into the back of the lady’s Infiniti. The lady gets out and yells at me “are you completely nuts?”. To which I reply in the most calm and soft voice “calm down Miss, it’s just a car”.

Some people definitely have no consideration for other people's property.

While not my M, when I was in High School I was sitting in my car with a few friends waiting for someone to come out of the store. This lady pulls up next to me and opens her door about as hard as one can whacking my passenger door, which put a nice dent in it. When "calmly" asking what the hell, she didn't care what just happened and walked off completely ignoring what she just did. Being the completely rational teenagers that we were, she ended up with some nice key marks along the side of her car. Today I wouldn't react in the same way as I have too much to lose, but I like your passive aggressive response

as much as I preach two wrongs don't make a right, I sure would be tempted to slam that cart into the jeep...

and reminds me of TWICE my car has been hit with shopping carts...

1. Windy day at Sams club, I come out and see a cart cruising down the parking lot picking up speed until it hits my car (parked really far out there) - smashing the corner light.

2. Same thing - grocery store - dropped wife off, parked in the middle of nowhere, talking and playing with kids and BOOM. Cart hits the side of my X6 leaving a massive ding. To this day, I don't know where it came from - cause nobody was around.

edit: come to think of it, how is it that shopping carts in parking lots defy physics?

This actually also happened to me! Windy parking lot in Detroit, I came out of a store and a cart is headed towards my car and a pretty rapid pace. I raced after and managed to catch up to it just prior to it hitting the side of my car. I shoved the cart out of the way, but strained my wrist in the process. It was sore for days. That cart had quite a bit of amassed kinetic energy!

I hate it when people just leave their carts scattered over the parking lots, ready to catch some wind and roll into someone's car. So inconsiderate.

Despite parking as far out as possible, it has happened to me twice. Once, with my then brand new 1999 528i - fortunately just hit the gas cap cover (I guess that makes it kind of unlucky and kind of lucky at the same time). The other time I was driving a BMW loaner.

Never take my M3 to the shops. Might as well take a bat to it myself.

I have a Nissan x trail I take and you should see the state of it.
