Wind Deflector
Has anyone bought an Aperta Wind Deflector for an e93? I saw one on eBay for $199 plus shipping. Other OEM Deflectors seem to be more expensive? Also, I can't seem to find any reviews of the product?
Any input would be helpful. Thanks! |

I have one similar to it. What I can say about it is that it is very rigid (more so than the factory one). I also bought the BMW one because it can be folded to fit in the trunk. This one, unfortunately, folds only once, but it is not enough to fit in the trunk. As long as you do not plan on doing this, the windscreen on the E93 is well worth the money.

areOlies, thanks for the reply and info. Actually, according to the advertisement, it comes with a storage bag, so I am assuming it folds up.

I recently paid up for an OEM one for the exact reason mentioned above: those third party ones on eBay fold in half but do NOT appear to have hinges to fold again to accommodate trunk storage. If that's not an issue for you, the price is obviously much better. Cheapest OEM one I could find was about $425. For me though, not being able to take it out and throw it in the trunk to accommodate a back seat passenger (just had to do for the first time this weekend) was going to be a deal breaker.
Take a close look the pictures. If you can't see hinges halfway across the lateral part of the frame, then it won't fold a second time to fit in the trunk |

Zipper, thanks for the feedback. I just checked the ad, here is the link(https://www.ebay.com/i/263510002467?chn=ps) and it says it's foldable Lengthwise. If in fact, it only folds once, that would be useless. And I agree, not worth buying.

Yep, BMW must have a patent on that additional folding mechanism or something..
If you're not in a rush to get one, OEM ones do seem to pop up in the classifieds on here from time to time for much less than they go for new |

I have an OEM one I would be willing to part ways with since I no longer have an e93...

Guys, I ended up buying the Aperta Wind Deflector because it stated in the ad that it folded. Well I received it today and it works like a charm. Folds up with a really nice storage bag. Fit's right in place and the price was right. $199 plus shipping from Cabriolet Supply as opposed to $450 + on Amazon. Thanks for all your input.

are0lies, I will take some pics and post them in this in this string. However, since it is not my daily driver and we're getting hit with our 3rd Nor'easter today and tomorrow, it might be a while before "The Beast" is out and about.

Thanks for playing along. I'm glad it worked out for you. I was fortunate to answer a for sale post on Offer Up. I bought a rarely used OEM screen for under $150. Now you are ready to start modding.

Interior mod find some used CF trim. Trust me you will like the look of the dash with the CF over the silver. A lot of 6MT guys swap out the shifter for something will shorter throws and a bit less sloppy. I own DCT so I can't say for sure but I know members like spazzyfry123 have done the swap and are happy that they did. Have your motor mounts checked out. If they have never been changed then I can guarantee you that you are getting unwanted play in the mounts. Tranny mounts while you are in there. Spazzy had that done also FYI. I will be doing my shortly. The best bang for your buck will be a test pipe and a Stage 2 tune from Alex@Alpine or any of the other tunes offered by vendors here or perhaps you have a local tuner. His Stage 1 was just dynod at 25HP and 13TQ. Stage 2 is probably closer to 40hp is my guess. In order to have a Stage 2 tune you have to have a test pipe is why I suggested changing that out. I have a Gintani X-Pipe and that does the trick and sounds amazing. There are used X-Pipes available in the market or you can go with new if not just the test pipe itself. If not an X-Pipe or tune you could go with the OEM muffler mod which is reasonably cheap and sounds good to those of us who have had it done. But there are some good deals on new and used exhausts out there that you might want to read up on and then go to YouTube and listen to them to see what you like. Of course nothing beats finding local members and listening/riding along and seeing if you like their set up. The sound of an exhaust with the top down is a pretty cool feature that adds to the E93. And of course you might want to consider getting the bearings done but that is debatable and a decision that one had to think long and hard about. |

I also changed my motor mounts over to Vibratechnics when I changed my rod bearings preemptively with the extra clearance BE bearings. Left my transmission mount alone, though. My next step will be to change the rear subframe bushings to solid units. I think I'll be a happy camper for a while (except for the coilovers that I "need"). |

Any chance that you took those pictures? I'm currently in the market and would love to see how the Aperta compares to the OEM unit.

I did not take any pics specifically of the Wind Deflector. However, here are some pics with it in place. This model has worked great and for the $$$ I would recommend it all day long!!! Good luck
