Is it possible to add the "convenience package" to a used e90?

I think I may have found the perfect car for me however it doesn't have the convenience package for keyless entry and start. Is there anyway a dealer could add that to our used e90?

No, dealer will not install a factory installed package.

As well, the 'Convenience Package' is more than just Comfort Access (keyless entry).

Ok. Is there another way to add those features?

Other convenience features aside, it is possible to retrofit comfort access but it’s a pain in the rear and no dealer is going to do it. A shop would charge a fortune as well the only way it’s even remotely economical is if you’re a very experienced DIY mechanic and do it yourself.

Yep. It's doable, but silly.

Approx $2k in parts. Quite a bit of labor involved in running the wiring harness and installing the antennas. Unless the car is some crazy unicorn Individual spec, I'd pass and wait for one that has it ordered originally. That's assuming it's a must have feature, of course.

Trust me, it's a nice feature, but not worth retrofitting if you find the otherwise perfect M3.

Comfort access is fraught with FRM issues and gremlins down the road

I took a tour of the South Carolina plant last year, and saw them installing the wiring harnesses in all the X3/X4s. Seeing it all laid out like that gave me a new perspective on just how complex these cars are.

I'd pass on trying to retrofit this option.

I've never had any issues with comfort access across all three E9x products I own. We've had the 330i since new (ordered it), and it's 12+ years and 155k miles now also. I'm on year six with the M3, and it's always worked fine. The E91 is 11 years old and 120k miles with no CA issues. I haven't witnessed any significant CA issues on the forums over the years. I'd be more worried about rod bearings and those I'm not the least bit worried about.

Once you get used to having CA, driving a car that requires digging out a key every time is a pain.

Once again, this "option" was held hostage by BMW for many years while cars costing less than 1/2 as much had a "smart key" as standard equipment. BMW even charged 5 and 6 series cars twice as much ($1000 vs $500) for the comfort access option -- for identical equipment. Why? Because they knew they could put the screws to the customer and the customer would still buy product from them. They did this same process with rear view cameras and PDC on the F8x by only allowing them through a very expensive "package" while Corollas had a camera as standard equipment; thankfully for 2018 model year in the US, the law forced them to provide a backup camera. Typical modern day BMW behavior where they believe that something called customer goodwill is a notion of the past.

My 328i CA stopped working and It was annoying as all get out to have to pull the key from the slot and open the door every time entering. My Indy never did figure out what the issue was.

My biggest issue when it comes to keys is the wife losing one. If we have two keys to a vehicle I usually have a funeral for one of them when we get the car because I know she's going to lose it at some point in time. EJT86 what you got son?

It's a LOT cheaper to retrofit CA than that. Here's a thread on the subject for E9x.

This one uses used parts and home made wiring. Not exactly a dealer installed retrofit.
